    Abstract: A hinge assembly includes a base, a link, a spring, and a pair of clutches. The spring attaches to the link, and the link attaches to an object to be supported, e.g., an LCD monitor. The clutches resist pivotal motion between the link and the base, and between the object and the link, wile the spring is in tension and balances the weight of the object. One or more additional combinations of these elements can be placed in parallel, joined by anti-sway bars, to further stabilize the assembly.
