  • Patent number: 9399901
Abstract: A method for characterizing flow production of a well. The method includes generating a plurality of dimensionless decline curves from a mathematical model that characterizes an expected flow production of the well and generating an overlay curve based on production data pertaining to the well. After generating the mathematical model and the overlay curve, the method compares the overlay curve to the plurality of dimensionless decline curves. The method then calculates a reservoir effective drainage area for the well based on the comparison.

  • Publication number: 20140083687
Abstract: A method can include providing data for a field that includes fractures and a well; analyzing at least a portion of the data for times less than an interaction time; and outputting one or more values for a parameter that characterizes storage of a fluid in the field and one or more values for a parameter that characterizes transfer of the fluid in the field. Various other methods, devices, systems, etc., are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20120046866
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for monitoring a hydrocarbon production system. A fiber optic sensor system is deployed into hydrocarbon production system, so as to extend to location of interest within the system, for instance, in conjunction with a downhole component or a surface component. The fiber optic system detects vibration present in the production system component, and provides a signal indicative of the vibration to a signal acquisition and analysis unit. The vibration of the production component is analyzed and a change in system flow condition/property or a change in production system component integrity is determined.

  • Patent number: 7755032
Abstract: A method for evaluating an inflow performance for completed intervals in a well includes pulsing neutrons into a fluid flow in the wellbore, detecting gamma rays from decays of nitrogen-16 in the well fluid flow with a first gamma ray detector, determining an in situ water velocity from the measurement of the gamma ray decays, and estimating the inflow performance of one or more competed intervals in the well from data that includes the in situ water velocity.

  • Patent number: 7062420
Abstract: An overall petroleum reservoir production optimization methodology permits the identification and remediation of unstimulated, under-stimulated, or simply poorly performing reservoir completed intervals in a multilayer commingled reservoir that can be recompleted using any of various recompletion methods (including but not limited to hydraulic fracturing, acidization, re-perforation, or drilling of one or more lateral drain holes) to improve the productivity of the well. This provides an excellent reservoir management tool and includes the overall analysis and remediation methodology that has been developed for commingled reservoirs. The specialized recompletion techniques can be used to improve the productivity of previously completed individual reservoir intervals in a commingled reservoir.

  • Patent number: 6842700
Abstract: A method for evaluating well performance includes deriving a reservoir effective permeability estimate from data points in a production history, wherein the data points include dimensional flow rates and dimensional cumulative production, at least one of the data points has no sand face flowing pressure information; and deriving at least one reservoir property from the reservoir effective permeability estimate and the data points according to a well type and a boundary condition for a well that produced the production data.

  • Patent number: 6691037
Abstract: This invention relates to methods for calibrating a formation permeability model with respect to data obtained from fluid flow measurements. A method according to the invention includes determining a correlation coefficient for a porosity-irreducible water saturation relationship; determining a leading coefficient for a formation permeability model; and determining at least one exponent parameter for the formation permeability model by minimizing a basis function that represents a difference between a formation permeability estimate derived from the formation permeability model and a formation permeability estimate derived from the fluid flow measurements.
