    Abstract: A ventilation, radon and thoron detection system and method is provided. The natural air ventilation rate of a closed space is determined by causing the purging of a closed space, to expel most of the equilibrium radon gas. The gradual buildup of the radon to equilibrium levels is closely monitored via an electronically controlled alpha detector. A one-to-one correspondence between the rate of return buildup of radon to the ventilation rate of the space is established. Empirically measured values of radon accumulation after purge are compared to stored tables of theoretical values. Adjustments may be made to account for residual radon after purge.
