  • Patent number: 4537239
Abstract: The invention provides a chilled casting wheel. An annular wheel core member has axially extending channels formed about a circumferential, outer peripheral surface thereof and is adapted to rotate about a concentric axis of rotation. A cylindrical, axially extending wheel rim member concentrically connected to the core peripheral surface has a preselected interference fit therewith to provide a preselected residual, circumferential stress within the rim. A coolant mechanism directs a fluid coolant to the interior surface of the rim and through the channels.

  • Patent number: 4454996
Abstract: The apparatus and method of this invention provides for the automatic, inline string-up of a rapidly advancing filament, particularly a glassy alloy strip, from a high speed continuous casting operation onto a rotating winding wheel. A take-up head comprised of two counter-rotating brush rollers having selectable interference and speed of counter rotation captures a leading segment of the advancing filament. The brush rollers are mounted on a carrier arm pivotable about the rotational axis of the winding wheel. As an actuator mechanism pivots the carrier arm, the brush rollers move around the winding wheel to contact a segment of the filament with the winding surface of the wheel. A cut and grip device then cuts the filament at the winding surface and secures the filament to the winding wheel. Thereafter, inline winding of the filament proceeds.

  • Patent number: 4185443
Abstract: The bag sealing machine includes a horizontal working table having all of its working parts at the same level. Adjacent to the table are (1) a product in-feed conveyor driven by a novel support and drive arrangement, (2) a product pusher having a novel, pivotable pusher means, (3) a supply of folded film and an adjustable plow for forming the film into bags, of different selectable sizes, having two open sides, (4) a scissors-type L-sealer operated by a novel drive arrangement, and (5) a package out-feed conveyor driven by a novel support and drive arrangement like that of the in-feed conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4177622
Abstract: The apparatus includes an L-sealer and a supply of folded film which is fed across a horizontal table to the vicinity of the sealer, where a product to be packaged is placed between the upper and lower sheets of folded film. The sealer is then operated to hold closed the open side of the film opposite the fold and thus to form a bag which is closed, but not sealed, on three sides. The edge of the table facing the open end of the bag is provided with a vacuum chamber which is operated to remove air from the bag, whereupon the L-sealer is operated to complete the sealing of the bag and the severing of the bag from the film supply.
