Abstract: Disclosed is a portable terminal operation method and a portable terminal supporting the same that enable rapid and convenient operation of a user function in relation to a particular item on a touch screen. The method includes: outputting an area in which one or more scrollable items are arranged; appointing a particular item when a first touch event occurs, determining if a second touch event occurs on the appointed item within a range in which item scrolling does not occur; and changing at least one of a part of a color, and a shape of an image, corresponding to the appointed particular item according to the occurrence of the second touch event.

The method for operating applications includes: displaying a contact tray comprised of a number of tray items based on contact information, on an execution screen; receiving an interaction to use a tray item in the contact tray; configuring an execution screen for an application based on contact information of the tray item; and operating the application based on the configured execution screen.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for adjusting a characteristic of a multimedia item are provided. The apparatus and method includes an auxiliary execution region and an execution region for adjusting a sound resource of a multimedia item, outputs a sound resource adjustment list on the auxiliary execution region according to the selection of a function of sound resource adjustment selected on the execution region, and outputs indexes capable of controlling a value of a corresponding sound resource adjustment if a specific sound resource adjustment item is selected. In this respect, the apparatus and method easily processes the sound resource adjustment based on the execution region and auxiliary execution region.

A touch input is detected from at least two of the displayed individual items. An outline of a folder item to be generated is displayed around a plurality of the at least two touched individual items. Upon receiving a touch release input, the folder item is generated and displayed within the outline to arrange the individual items that receive touch inputs therein.
