  • Patent number: 9473295
Abstract: Embodiments provided herein include techniques for enabling a mobile device to communicate with smart media in a manner that can sidestep the secure element of the mobile device—and the costs associated with it. The mobile device can communicate with the smart media using near-field communication (NFC) by creating an encrypted connection with a remote computer while bypassing a secure element of the mobile device. This allows the mobile device to provide point-of-sale (POS) functionality by reading and/or writing to the smart media, without compromising the security of the smart media.

  • Publication number: 20150317841
Abstract: Systems and techniques are presented for detecting fare evasion at a paid entry gate. A video feed is received from a video camera aimed at an area that includes the paid entry gate. The video feed is analyzed to detect a specific event. Fare collection data is received from a fare collection device. The fare collection device is located at the paid entry gate and configured to collect fare for passage through the paid entry gate. A determination is made that a proper fare has not been collected for the specific event based on the fare collection data. An alert is generated indicating that fare evasion is detected in response to determining that the proper fare has not been collected for the specific event.

  • Publication number: 20140350979
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for providing trip planning and associated payment of a trip involving multiple modes of transportation (i.e., “multi-modal trip planning”). Embodiments can enable a user to plan a multi-modal journey on an electronic device, and pay for products (tolls, tickets, etc.) associated with the journey on the same electronic device, or a different electronic device. Embodiments can also allow for re-planning a journey, providing for an alternative route when current information regarding an original route suggests the alternate route would be advisable. Payment for products associated with the alternate route can be provided.

  • Publication number: 20140156396
Abstract: Embodiments of systems and methods are disclosed for providing messages based on an identified ridership pattern of a user of a transit system. Embodiments can include receiving information associated with a plurality of transactions of the user of the transit system, and identifying a ridership pattern of the user of the transit system. A predicted time and duration that the user of the transit system will be at a predicted location can be determined based, at least in part, on the identified ridership pattern. A message can be formulated using this information, and the message can be sent to the user or other message subscriber. Messages can include a variety of information, including advertisements, transit status updates, and more.
