  • Patent number: 7877100
Abstract: A position determination system and apparatus for utilizing a network of cellular base stations to determine position of a mobile station includes taking a plurality of statistically independent data measurements of the pilot signals from the base stations. Each of the data measurements includes an earliest time of arrival, providing multiple independent measurements for each of the pilot signals. For each cellular base station, a representative measurement is calculated responsive to the independent measurements, which is used to determine position of the mobile station using an AFLT algorithm and/or in conjunction with a GPS algorithm. In some embodiments, the data measurements for each pilot signal further include an RMSE estimate and time of measurement for each time of arrival, and an energy measurement for all resolvable paths. If the mobile station comprises a cell phone, a cell search list and a GPS search list may be provided by a cell base station.

  • Patent number: 7729412
Abstract: A parameter estimator for estimating one or more parameter(s) from a correlation function derived from a signal using a dynamically variable integration time is described. The parameter estimator may be employed in a subscriber station to estimate the time of arrival of one or more base station or sector pilot signals in a wireless communication system. This information may be utilized in an overall advanced forward link trilateration (AFLT) process for estimating the location of the subscriber station.

  • Publication number: 20090316620
Abstract: A method and device for managing a reference oscillator within a wireless device is presented. The method includes selecting reference oscillator parameters associated with the lowest reference oscillator error, where the selection is based upon reference oscillator parameters derived using different technologies within a wireless device, acquiring a satellite based upon the selected reference parameters, determining the quality of the satellite-based position fix, and updating the reference oscillator parameters based upon the quality of the satellite-based position fix.

  • Publication number: 20090318167
Abstract: A position location system, method, and apparatus are disclosed. A wireless device receives a first signal and obtains an identifier indicative of a first location from the first signal. The first signal can be received from a cellular base station and the first identifier can be a mobile country code. The wireless device uses the identifier to determine the availability of signals from a regional satellite system at the first location. If signals from the regional satellite system are available at the first location, the wireless device retrieves information associated with one or more satellite vehicles in the regional satellite system. The information can include pseudo-random number codes and a Doppler search range corresponding to the first location. The wireless device receives a second signal and processes the second signal to obtain first satellite signal information. The wireless device determines its position at least partially based on the first satellite signal information.

  • Patent number: 6992618
Abstract: A wireless remote unit performs SPS acquisition interleaved with receiving paging information over a wireless slotted paging channel and receiving data packets over a wireless data communication system. The remote unit tunes to a pilot channel, synchronizes to an internal clock of the wireless remote unit with a pilot signal transmitted over the pilot channel; and starts a search for SPS satellites after completing synchronization with the internal clock.

  • Publication number: 20040203420
Abstract: A method and apparatus for calculating a representative measurement from multiple data measurements of signals from cellular base stations, thereby facilitating utilization of a cellular network to determine position of a mobile station even in non-line of sight and/or dynamic fading environments. A method for calculating a representative measurement includes determining a window of time, selecting data measurements within the window, and calculating a representative time of arrival responsive thereto, such as averaging all data measurements within the window. A representative RMSE estimate may be calculated. To determine a window of time all data measurements within a predetermined window from an earliest time of arrival may be selected. Alternatively the window may be determined by sliding over the data measurements. The data measurements may be stored in a database in a mobile station, and the database is updated to include each new measurement.

  • Patent number: 5807272
Abstract: An impedance spectroscopy tissue status monitoring and measurement system is disclosed. The system uses a synthesizer to generates electrical signals of selected frequencies. An electrical current source is responsive to the synthesizer and generates electrical currents for transmission through tissue. Electrodes or inductive coils of the system apply the electrical current to the tissue and sense voltages generated in the tissue in response to the electrical current. A controller determines the spectral response of the tissue by detecting magnitude and phase information of the electrical energy transmitted through the tissue. The information is then used to determine volumes of compartments within the tissue and ionic concentrations of compartmental fluids. Capacitive effects derived from the phase information are used to determine cell membrane functionality within the tissue. From this analysis, status, specifically, ischemia, may be determined on an absolute basis.
