Abstract: A sample capture and testing system can include a primary receptacle for receiving a fluid sample, where the primary receptacle has a sensor for label-free detection of an analyte disposed at one side. The primary receptacle can be incorporated in a needle for in vivo capture and testing of a sample. The primary receptacle can be incorporated into a specimen container and used as part of a point of care device.

Abstract: A double disk dermal device for administration of one or more active agents to the skin or mucosa of a host, in particular a patch is described including: a) active reservoir film layer; b) a backing overlay adjacent to the active reservoir film layer extending beyond the perimeter of the reservoir layer in all directions; c) second overlay backing layer with a coating of pressure sensitive adhesive which is adjacent to the first backing overlay extending beyond the perimeter of the first backing overlay in all directions; and d) a removable release liner. A method of making the device is also provided.

Abstract: A method of synthesizing a chiral compound having a quaternary carbon atom bearing diastereotopic groups from (a) a nitroolefin and (b) an ?-substituted ?-dicarbonyl or an equivalent compound having an acidic C—H moiety compound is disclosed. A subsequent intramolecular reaction between one of the substituents comprising the stereogenic carbon atom and one of the diastereotopic groups comprising the quaternary carbon atom creates a new compound having two contiguous stereogenic centers, one of which is quaternary, with control over the relative stereochemistry.

Abstract: Assemblies for the adhesive attachment to the skin or mucosa of a host are disclosed. The assembly or transdermal patch includes an outer backing layer, a first layer of adhesive on the inner surface of the outer backing layer, an inner backing layer, and an intermediate release liner between the first layer of adhesive and the inner backing layer. The intermediate release liner includes a releasable surface on both its inner and outer surfaces.
