  • Patent number: 6403879
Abstract: An electronic device has a chassis having a plurality of structural members with slots located therebetween. The slots serve as conduits between electronic components located within the electronic device and peripheral devices. The structural members are folded to provide reinforcement. The reinforcement allows the structural members to be relatively small and to have a plurality of ventilation holes formed therein. A gasket is placed between the chassis and the electronic components to attenuate EMI passing through the chassis. The gasket has a plurality of tabs formed thereon that serve to bias the gasket against the electronic components and to electrically connect the electronic devices to the chassis.

  • Patent number: 5963681
Abstract: The invention includes in a unitary piece a circuit board guide and a light conduit. This unitary piece includes a guide surface defining a longitudinal channel operable to receive an edge of a circuit board which is easily guided to a connector on a backplane or motherboard. Concurrently, the light conduit is operable to transmit light from a light source to a display area. Relevant information about the system is hence transmitted from the backplane to a viewing area accessible to a user. The unitary piece is typically made of optically transmissive plastics such as polycarbonates.

  • Patent number: 5928076
Abstract: EMI-attenuating air ventilation panel for electrical and electronic systems. An opening through a metallic panel is realized using an extrusion method in order to obtain a tube leaving the opening at one end. The periphery of the opening at the other side of the extruded tube has a smooth edge in order to improve air circulation. A multitude of such extruded holes are critically placed on the panel to form an array. The panel in turn is mounted in an electrical or electronic system to allow air cooling while the extruded tubes attenuate EMI radiation to and from electrical circuits.

  • Patent number: 5707282
Abstract: A cooling system for electronic component cases is disclosed. The system includes a fan diffuser located between the exhaust fan and the exhaust grill formed in an exterior wall of the case. The diffuser allows the grill to vary in both size and shape from the fan, thus allowing the grill footprint to differ from that of the fan. This arrangement allows the grill size to be optimized, taking advantage of the available space on the case wall. The diffuser also allows components to be located between the fan and the case wall portion where the grill is located.
