Publication number: 20230219933Abstract: The near-infrared window of fluorescent heptamethine cyanine dyes greatly facilitates biological imaging because there is deep penetration of the light and negligible background fluorescence. But dye instability, aggregation, and poor pharmacokinetics are current drawbacks that limit performance and the scope of possible applications. All these limitations are simultaneously overcome with a new molecular design strategy that produces a charge balanced and sterically shielded fluorochrome. The key design feature is a meso-Aryl group that simultaneously projects two shielding arms directly over each face of a linear heptamethine polyene. Cell and mouse imaging experiments compared a shielded heptamethine cyanine dye (and several peptide and antibody bioconjugates) to benchmark heptamethine dyes and found that the shielded systems possess an unsurpassed combination of photophysical, physiochemical and biodistribution properties that greatly enhance bioimaging performance.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 22, 2021Publication date: July 13, 2023Applicant: UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME DU LACInventors: Bradley D. Publication number: 20210215276Abstract: A one-piece exterior molding for controlling routing of an underlying hose can comprise a plurality of rings that extend in spaced relationship in a length direction of the exterior molding, and at least two spannings that run in the length direction of the exterior molding from a first end portion of the exterior molding to a second end portion of the exterior molding opposite the first end portion. The at least two spannings can be spaced from each other radially, according to different radii extending from a central axis of the exterior molding. The exterior molding is configured to control routing of the underlying hose according to straight and/or one or more curves based on configuration of the plurality of rings and the at least two spannings.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 13, 2020Publication date: July 15, 2021Applicant: Caterpillar Inc.Inventor: Bradley D. Patent number: 10683174Abstract: A flow-through discharge assembly having a rotatable tube section and an opening through which product is discharged and a positioning apparatus for rotating the tube section between operation and non-operational conditions. When the tube is positioned in an operational orientation, grain exits through the opening for discharge from the assembly. When the tube is returned to a non-operational condition, the tube opening is blocked and grain is prevented from exiting through the opening. The tube opening may be a single elongated opening or may include multiple tube openings through which product is discharged. A method of using a rotary discharge assembly to control grain flow within a grain handling system is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2017Date of Patent: June 16, 2020Assignee: AG GROWTH INTERNATIONAL INC.Inventors: Jeremy J. Huff, Douglas Kruse, Michael Patenaude, Bradley D. Smith

Patent number: 8389223Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are generally directed to compositions comprising a class of molecular probes for detecting the presence of anionic cell surfaces. Embodiments include compositions that are enriched for these compositions and preparations, particularly preparations suitable for use as laboratory/clinical reagents and diagnostic indicators, either alone or as part of a kit. An embodiment of the invention provides for a highly selective agent useful in the discernment and identification of dead or dying cells, such as apoptotic cells, in a relatively calcium-free environment. An embodiment of the invention provides a selective agent for the identification of bacteria in a mixed population of bacterial cells and nonbacterial cells.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2010Date of Patent: March 5, 2013Assignee: University of Notre Dame du LacInventor: Bradley D. Patent number: 5800624Abstract: Plasticized liquid membranes and processes for separating monosaccharides from disaccharides and from other monosaccharides employing the membranes are provided. Fructose is separated from glucose via the membrane process to provide fructose in concentrations sufficient for HFS (high fructose syrup) and sucrose, glucose and fructose are separated from crude sources such as molasses, sugar cane juice and beet sugar juice. The plasticized membranes are prepared by dissolving a lipophilic polymer such as cellulose triacetate, an organic liquid plasticizer such as a hydrophobic ether compound e.g. 2-nitrophenyloctyl ether and, a carrier compound such as a quaternary ammonium salt or a boronic acid compound with lipophilic substitution in a suitable solvent which upon evaporation provides the plasticized membrane. The membrane produced is homogeneous having all three components equally dispersed in the membrane.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1996Date of Patent: September 1, 1998Assignee: University of Notre DameInventors: Bradley D.
