  • Patent number: 10404039
Abstract: An energy storage unit (ESU) is provided herein. The ESU includes a housing forming an interior volume configured to store a plurality of batteries that can collectively provide a maximum power level. The ESU includes a segmented branch interconnect system including a power transfer assembly that includes a first power interconnect system and a second power interconnect system. The second power interconnect system is configured to be coupled to a first adjacent power interconnect system of a first adjacent ESU. The power transfer assembly includes one or more conductors coupled to the first power interconnect system and the second power interconnect system, and is configured to transfer electrical power therebetween. The power transfer assembly is rated to transfer a power level that is at least three times the maximum power level provided by the plurality of batteries stored in the housing.

  • Patent number: 10193112
Abstract: An energy storage component (ESC) enclosure is provided. The ESC enclosure includes a plurality of ESC modules. Each ESC module includes at least one side portion having a plurality of side fastening mechanisms configured to be coupled to an adjacent ESC module, wherein the plurality of ESC modules is coupled together via the plurality of side fastening mechanisms to form an ESC enclosure. The ESC enclosure further includes a plurality of shelving kits, each shelving kit mounted to one of the ESC modules. The ESC enclosure further includes a roof that is coupled to the plurality of ESC modules, and a plurality of panels coupled to the plurality of ESC modules about a perimeter of the ESC enclosure to form a shared air space within the ESC enclosure.

  • Publication number: 20060199061
Abstract: A bipolar, filter press-like electrochemical cell stack comprising a plurality of electrochemical cells, where each electrochemical cell is supplied with a gaseous anodic reactant and either supplied with a gaseous cathodic reactant or produces a gaseous cathodic product, and where each electrochemical cell avoids drying out the ion exchange membrane polymer electrolyte, avoids flooding at the cathode, facilitates recovery of liquid water at the anode, and reduces water losses from at least one of the electrodes. A water retention barrier is variously positioned, such as between a gas diffusion electrode and a fluid flow field. The barrier may be either: (i) a thin, gas permeable, liquid water impermeable membrane; (ii) a thin, porous sheet of material; or (iii) a thin, substantially solid sheet of material except for a plurality of small through-holes that penetrate from one side of the sheet to an opposing side of the same sheet.
