Patent number: 8148917Abstract: A flashlight in accordance with an aspect of the invention includes an ID module for generating an ID signal indicative of a power mode of the flashlight. In an aspect, the flashlight mates with a removable battery pack that regulates at least one of an output voltage and output current in accordance with the ID signal. In an aspect, the flashlight includes a printed circuit board (PCB) on which the ID module is mounted. In an aspect, the flashlight includes a soft-start module and a bulb, wherein the soft start module increases power to the bulb at a controlled rate when the flashlight is turned on. In an aspect, the flashlight includes a lamp housing having a lens retained by a bezel. The lens includes an axially extending peripheral edge. In an aspect, the flashlight includes a main housing having a lamp housing. A mounting mechanism and mating features are adapted to selectively couple and decouple the main housing and the lamp housing.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2010Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Scott Hilt, Bradley J. Mealy, David A. Carrier, Andrew E. Seman, Jr.

Patent number: 7437824Abstract: A reciprocating saw includes a locking mechanism for a shoe of the reciprocating saw. The mechanism includes a lever mounted on the saw body movable to a first position where the saw blade is clamped in place. It also includes a lock pin with a body, a reduced circumference section, and a pin shoulder adjacent the reduced circumference section. The pin has a locked position where the pin shoulder abuts the shoe shoulder whereby the pin locks the shoe in place and an unlocked position where the shoe shoulder may translate through the clearance defined by the reduced circumference section. The lever urges the pin toward the locked position when the lever is in the first position.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2005Date of Patent: October 21, 2008Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: David Chreene, Bradley J. Mealy

Patent number: 7126242Abstract: A field case housing has a substantially cylindrical wall segment, an end segment and a flange all having a substantially constant wall thickness. The flange has reinforcing ribs connected to the wall segment and aperture reinforcing bosses. The end segment, the wall segment and the flange are formed as a single, integral part adapted to reduce warping of the housing during molding. A cylindrical guide member is located in the field case housing and a conical guide member is located in the fan baffle. The cylindrical guide member is adapted to insure a screw passing through the cylindrical guide member is guided to a point within the conical guide member. The fan baffle has a transverse wall with an aperture and guide walls extending adjacent the aperture. The guide walls are adapted to guide an armature past the magnets without contacting and damaging them.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2005Date of Patent: October 24, 2006Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Robert B. Williams, Robert J. Marcinkowski, Earl M. Ortt, Bradley J. Mealy

Patent number: 6805208Abstract: A power tool includes a motor, a housing forming a handle, and a power switch disposed within the handle operatively associated with the motor. The power switch is movable between “on” and “off” positions via a trigger. The trigger is pivotable about a first axis. A lock-out link is pivotably attached to the housing. The lock-out link is movable between a first position contacting the power switch for preventing movement of the power switch to the “on” position, and a second position not contacting the power switch, allowing movement of the power switch to the “on” position. The lock-out link pivots between the first and second positions about a second axis non-parallel to the first axis. In addition, a first button is disposed on the housing for moving the lock-out link between the first and second positions.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2002Date of Patent: October 19, 2004Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Robert Kusmierski, Bradley J. Mealy
