  • Patent number: 11087228
Abstract: A generic online, probabilistic, approximate computational inference model for learning-based data processing is presented. The model includes detection, feature production and classification steps. It employs Bayesian Probabilistic Models (BPMs) to characterize complex real-world behaviors under uncertainty. The BPM learning is incremental. Online learning enables BPM adaptation to new data. The available data drives BPM complexity (e.g., number of states) accommodating spatial and temporal ambiguities, occlusions, environmental clutter, and large inter-domain data variability. Generic Sequential Bayesian Inference (GSBI) efficiently operates over BPMs to process streaming or forensic data. Deep Belief Networks (DBNs) learn feature representations from data. Examples include model applications for streaming imagery (e.g., video) and automatic target recognition (ATR).

  • Patent number: 9286581
Abstract: A user interface for a portable computing device provides two modes of operation. In a first mode, an inbox of all documents accessible by the portable computing device are presented. Each of the items in the inbox is selectable, and if selected, the user interface transitions to a second document presentation mode. In the document presentation mode, the user may annotate the document and upon providing a single input (selecting a submit button), the system automatically forwards the document (including the annotations) to the next state in the workflow. If the user transitions back to the inbox mode from the document presentation mode, no action is taken on the document but the strokes are stored with the document on the portable computing device.

  • Patent number: 9159274
Abstract: A system and a method for updating an electronic paper display are disclosed. A memory includes a waveform table and a transition matrix including multiple pixels, each representing a pixel of the electronic paper display. A page transition display system is coupled to the memory and identifies waveforms from the waveform table associated with multiple transition matrix pixels by processing multiple transition matrix pixels in parallel. For example, the page transition display system loads multiple transition matrix pixels into a register and accesses the waveform table using the contents of the register. Using the identified waveforms, the page transition display system generates control signals used to modify the electronic paper device.

  • Patent number: 9058778
Abstract: Systems and methods for maintaining DC balance in bi-stable displays using contrast correction are disclosed. The system includes a DC balance module and storage for DC corrective waveforms. The DC balance module generates transitional driving schemes which drive pixels to new color values while simultaneously shifting each pixel's relative impulse potential values to be in line with those of the new speed drive scheme. The transitional driving schemes ensure DC balance by performing contrast and color-depth correction. In particular, the transitional driving schemes lower the contrast and reduce the color depth of pixels when increasing the speed of page flipping and raise the contrast and color depth when reducing the speed of page flipping. The present embodiment of the invention also includes a method for variable-speed page flipping with contrast correction and a method for creating a transitional driving scheme.

  • Patent number: 9024862
Abstract: A system and method for driving a display region on the display are described. The method includes receiving a desired color for a pixel, determining a waveform to drive the pixel to desired color, updating frame buffer with an index to the determined waveform, updating waveform table with the determined waveform, and then driving the pixel on the display using the index and associated waveform. After the drive, the waveform is removed from the waveform table and the corresponding pixel in frame buffer is updated with an index corresponding to a null waveform.

  • Patent number: 8885832
Abstract: A distributed peer-to-peer document archive system provides version-control, security, access control, linking among stored documents and remote access to documents usually associated with centralized storage systems while still providing the simplicity, personalization and robustness to network outages associated with personal and peer-to-peer storage systems. A “keyring” is an encrypted repository that allows a user to recover and access a user's entire digital archive with a single master key. After the key is created, it does not need to be updated, and can be stored in a safe, safety-deposit box or other secure location. In the event the user's computer is stolen or destroyed, the user need only install the system on a new machine and import the master key. The system will then use that key to browse nearby servers to find and decrypt all files necessary to recreate the full digital archive in its most recent state.

  • Patent number: 8830258
Abstract: A method and system for generating strokes in real-time on an electronic paper display. A display device receives the stroke input, which is converted to binary code by a digitizer. A rendering engine renders the high-resolution stroke data in non-antialiased form to an ink buffer. The rendering engine then updates pixels based on the color or gray level of the background (unlinked) pixel and the amount of ink covering the pixel.

A polling module uses a received location from the workflow manager to retrieve data. The process control module performs a plurality of processing functions such a processing polled data, storing it or providing it to other clients. The process control module can also initiate other clients. The present invention also includes a number of novel methods including a method for registering a client, a method for polling data, and a method for initiating other clients.

  • Patent number: 8587597
Abstract: A page transition file creation system and a method for creating a page transition file in a file format suitable for displaying transitions quickly on an electronic paper display. The page transition file creation system creates a page transition file with page transition blocks representing transition between two or more pages. The page transition file creation system encodes the high order color bit from each pixel for a given page. Each transition block in the page transition file covers a set of consecutive pages that overlaps with pages covered by the previous block and the next block for pseudo double buffering. A page transition display system uses page transition files to display page transitions. The page transition display system determines the appropriate page transition file and waveform lookup table for displaying page transitions. The page transition display system uses the determined page transition file and waveform lookup table for displaying the transitions.

  • Patent number: 8452153
Abstract: An information stream (information stream) can be “bookmarked” with event markers to note points in time in the information stream of occurrences of interesting events. Repeat occurrences of an event are noted with the same event marker. The events of interest need not be a priori determined. In fact, unexpected events can be readily noted.
