Abstract: Topical preparation dispensers and methods of using the same are provided. Aspects of the invention include a topical preparation dispenser having a holder, one or more vertically stacked topical preparations in the holder, and a cap at one end of the holder configured such that upon movement of the cap, a topical preparation is exposed and moved relative to the holder. Also provided are kits that include the subject dispensers.

Abstract: A method including topically administering an effective amount of local anesthetic to a patient is disclosed. The method is effective for inducing analgesia for treating non-neuropathic pain. Non-neuropathic pain suitable for treatment according to the invention includes pain associated with sports injuries; sprains; strains; soft-tissue injury; repetitive motion injury; carpal tunnel syndrome; injury to tendons, ligament, and muscles; conditions such as fibromyalgia, bursitis, castrochondritis, myofascial pain, and pain associated with arthritis, inflammation, contusions, post-surgical pain, and nociceptive pain. Preferably, the lidocaine is applied via a transdermal patch applied near the locus of pain.

Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition intended for oral use contains the effective ingredient(s), capsaicin, and other typical fillers and excipients. The composition is preferably in the form of a solid oral dosage form. Transdermally administered compositions are also within the purview of the invention. Aside from the effective pharmaceutical ingredient(s) the composition includes an amount of capsaicin which serves as a deterrent to the intranasal, intravenous, or oral abuse of the composition. Such a composition deters abusers from crushing prescription pharmaceutical tablets for abusive snorting, injection, or ingestion.

Abstract: Methods are provided for the treatment of a host suffering from head ache pain with topical applications of a local anesthetic. The topical local anesthetic composition comprises an effective amount of a local anesthetic in combination with eucalyptol as a penetration enhancing agent, and optionally an additional penetration enhancing agent. The topical local anesthetic composition is applied to a keratinized skin site proximal to target nerves associated with the headache pain, usually to the supraorbital or occipital regions of the head. Upon application of the topical composition, the local anesthetic rapidly penetrates the skin to block conduction in the target nerves and provide pain relief to the host.
