  • Patent number: 11216600
Abstract: A polish analysis platform is disclosed. The polish analysis platform may receive a set of parameters for a proposed engine. The set of parameters may include: a quantity of hours of operation for the proposed engine, and a power output for the proposed engine. The polish analysis platform may determine an end of injection for the proposed engine based on the set of parameters. The polish analysis platform may generate a virtual instance of the proposed engine. The virtual instance may be configured with the end of injection. The polish analysis platform may simulate operation of the proposed engine using the virtual instance. Output of simulating the operation of the proposed engine may include a liner polish of a liner. The polish analysis platform may perform one or more manufacturing-related actions regarding the proposed engine based on the output of simulating the operation of the proposed engine.

  • Publication number: 20200165963
Abstract: A direct-injected compression ignition internal combustion engine includes an engine housing having a cylinder and a piston movable within the cylinder and including a piston end face forming a combustion bowl. The piston end face has an annular piston rim with a rounded inner rim surface that extends radially inward and axially downward from a planar outer rim surface to a combustion bowl edge. An antebowl is defined by the rounded inner rim surface and has an antebowl volume that is about 0.8% or greater of a total volume of the combustion bowl and the antebowl together. A configuration and dimensional attributes of the antebowl is associated with reduced smoke production during operation, particularly for low to mid-load transients.

  • Publication number: 20160169153
Abstract: A piston for an internal combustion engine includes a piston body forming a crown portion and a skirt portion. The skirt portion includes a pin bore and forms two guide surfaces. The crown portion forms a cylindrical surface having at least two grooves defining a top land surface and a bottom land surface. A ratio between a height of the top land surface and a nominal inner diameter of a bore in which the piston is configured to operate is between 3% and 4.5%. Further, the pin bore has a diameter that extends entirely within the respective heights of the two guide surfaces along the centerline of the piston such that the skirt portion fully supports the piston.

  • Publication number: 20160169152
Abstract: A piston includes a piston body forming a crown portion and a skirt portion, the crown portion forming a bowl surrounded by a flat crown surface having an annular shape and disposed along a plane, the bowl and the flat crown surface meeting along a rim of the bowl having a generally circular shape. A generally cylindrical surface surrounds the crown portion and forms at least two grooves that define top and bottom land surfaces. The top land surface has a height along a centerline of the piston, and the piston has a nominal outer diameter configured to reciprocally operate within a bore having an inner diameter such that a ratio between the height of the top land surface and the inner diameter of the bore is between 3% and 4.5%.
