  • Publication number: 20110251777
Abstract: A system and method for controlling an injection time of a fuel injector. The system includes a drive circuit configured to output a drive signal having a pulse width, wherein the injection time is influenced by the pulse width and a closing electrical decay of the fuel injector. A controller is configured to determine the closing electrical decay of the fuel injector and adapt the pulse width based on the closing electrical decay to control the injection time. The closing electrical decay includes a closing response. The controller determines the closing response based on an injector signal, such as a coil voltage of the fuel injector. By determining the closing response, the pulse width can be adjusted to compensate for fuel injector part-to-part variability, fuel injector wear, variations in fuel pressure received by the fuel injector, dirt in the fuel injector, and the like.

  • Patent number: 6629650
Abstract: An engine fuel injector includes an internal fuel passage in which pressure waves can develop upon opening and closing of an injection valve. A fuel pressure damper is associated with the fuel passage and operates to vary the internal volume of the fuel passage in a manner to reduce the amplitude of pressure variations and pressure waves in the fuel passage. A variety of fuel pressure damper embodiments are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6186421
Abstract: A fuel injector includes a tubular injector body which has an open, upper end and defines an axial fuel passage. A solenoid actuator assembly is disposed in the injector body and includes a spool-like bobbin with a central through-bore and a wound wire coil supported thereon. A magnetic circuit pole subassembly includes a fuel tube, a valve guide, and a pole piece. The fuel tube has a tubular portion and a lower circular flange portion radially extending from a lower terminal end of the tubular portion to contact the open, upper end of the injector body. The nonmagnetic valve guide has a guide cylindrical portion, extending axially downward through the central throughbore and is closely encircled by the bobbin, and a guide circular flange portion radially extending from an upper end of the guide cylindrical portion and mating with the lower circular flange portion of the fuel tube.

  • Patent number: 5755386
Abstract: A fuel injector for discharging fuel to an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The injector has a nozzle body with an annular valve seat surrounding a fuel discharge opening. A valve member is disposed in the internal cylindrical cavity and is moveable between a first, sealing position relative to the valve seat and a second, open position off of the seat. The valve member is guided in its movement, with respect to the valve seat by a valve guide member disposed in the nozzle, closely adjacent the annular valve seat. The valve guide member includes a disc shaped member having an outer perimeter which is configured for placement within the nozzle body and a tubular central portion which defines a central, valve guide opening. The valve guide opening extends through the tubular central portion to open adjacent the annular valve seat and is configured for circumjacent disposition relative to the valve member to guide movement of the valve.
