  • Publication number: 20060230924
Abstract: A gas fractionalization apparatus and methods for providing oxygen rich air to patients are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a variable output compressor, a PSA unit, a control system, and one or more pressure sensing devices. Pressure of the oxygen rich gas is maintained within a selected window by adjusting the output of the compressor in response to changes in the pressure of the oxygen rich gas. Methods of feedback control are further provided for calibration of the compressor under factory and in-service conditions, as well as under high-altitude conditions. Methods for providing diagnostic estimates and alarms of time to service are further provided.

  • Publication number: 20060124128
Abstract: A apparatus for delivering oxygen to a patient is provided. The apparatus includes a gas source such as an oxygen concentrator and a portable intelligent controller that is movable relative to the gas source and operable over a distance from the gas source. The portable intelligent controller is compact, lightweight and configured to remotely monitor and control one or more functions of the gas source. The functions include compressor speed, product gas production rate, valve timing, power supply and the like. The portable intelligent controller also has a user interface which allows the user to remotely adjust one or more settings of the gas source. In some implementations, the portable intelligent controller also includes a satellite conserver, which delivers oxygen in metered amounts in response to sensed breaths of the patient.

  • Publication number: 20060090759
Abstract: In an embodiment, the invention is an improved interface to a conserver for therapeutic gas delivery. The improved circuit allows for fine control of the frequency response of a feedback element, which permits a high gain interface. The result is excellent compensation of transducer drift with little distortion of the frequencies of interest for breath detection, even for low breath pressure scenarios.

  • Publication number: 20050274381
Abstract: A system for delivering therapeutic breathing gas to patients is provided to deliver a variable bolus volume in response to the patient's breathing pattern. The system includes a gas source, a conserver between the gas source and the patient, a sensor which detects breaths by the patient and a controller which receives signals from the sensor and triggers delivery of gas boluses in accordance with predefined triggering parameters, with the controller determining the time elapsed since the last bolus was triggered and altering the triggering parameters as a function of the elapsed time.

  • Publication number: 20050103341
Abstract: A portable gas fractionalization apparatus that provides oxygen rich air to patients is provided. The apparatus is compact, lightweight, and low-noise. The components are assembled in a housing that is divided into two compartments. One compartment is maintained at a lower temperature than the other compartment. The lower temperature compartment is configured for mounting components that can be damaged by heat. The higher temperature compartment is configured for mounting heat generating components. An air stream is directed to flow from an ambient air inlet to an air outlet constantly so that there is always a fresh source of cooling air. The apparatus utilizes a PSA unit to produce an oxygen enriched product. The PSA unit incorporates a novel single ended column design in which all flow paths and valves can be co-located on a single integrated manifold. The apparatus also can be used in conjunction with a satellite conserver and a mobility cart.
