  • Publication number: 20240074433
Abstract: An apparatus (10) for preserving biological material. The apparatus (10) has an insert (4) configured to be arranged within an outer insulated tank (2), the insert (4) defining a compartment (6) for receiving biological material. Inflow of a heat exchange fluid into the compartment (6) from the outer insulated tank (2) is at or adjacent one face of the insert (4), while outflow of the heat exchange fluid out of the compartment 6 to the outer insulated tank (2) is at or adjacent said face of the insert (4). The compartment (6) has a wall having a series of apertures to accommodate a continuous heat exchange fluid flow through the apparatus such that, in operation, biological material in the compartment (6) is immersed in the heat exchange fluid to exchange heat with the heat exchange fluid for freezing of said biological material.

  • Patent number: 11924230
Abstract: Data is collected from a set of devices according to a data collection policy. The data is associated with at least one of: device configuration, device state, or device behavior. A norm is established using the collected data. A different data collection policy is established based on the norm. Data is collected from a particular device according to the different data collection policy. The norm is compared to the data collected from the particular device. If there is a deviation beyond a threshold deviation between the norm and the data collected from the particular device, a responsive action is taken.

  • Patent number: 11460111
Abstract: A pivot joint comprises a pivot pin mounted to a first member and a second member with a housing defining a bore receiving the pivot pin, thus forming a pivot axis for pivotal movement of one member relative to the other. A resilient toroidal gasket is provided at either end of the housing in the bore at axially spaced positions of the pivot pin, and a circumferential recess receives each gasket in fixed axial location along the pivot pin. The gasket spans radially of the pivot pin from a base of the recess and across a circumferential gap formed between an inner surface of the bore and an outer surface of the pin where lubricant is suitably received. Thus the gaskets form a sealed interior of the bore closed at either end by the respective gasket so as to maintain the lubricant therein and contaminants out.

  • Patent number: 10738438
Abstract: An attachment for use with a bucket of a prime mover comprises a base member having fixed shape in a longitudinal direction of the base member between first and second ends with first and second pivoting members pivotally connected at the first and second ends of the base member, each actuated for pivotal movement about a respective transverse axis by a distinct actuator. The second pivoting member forms a base for releasably receiving different attachment ends such as a secondary arm member carrying a respective pivoting member independently actuated of the base member's pivoting members that is disposed on a secondary arm member end distal to a connection end thereof for connecting to the base member, an extension member without any actuators and pivoting members, and a tool section which is designed for carrying out a specific function.

  • Patent number: 9826373
Abstract: A wireless local area network (WLAN) transmitter includes a baseband processing module and a plurality of radio frequency (RF) transmitters. The processing module selects one of a plurality of modes of operation based on a mode selection signal. The processing module determines a number of transmit streams based on the mode selection signal. The processing of the data further continues by converting encoded data into streams of symbols in accordance with the number of transmit streams and the mode selection signal. A number of the plurality of RF transmitters are enabled based on the mode selection signal to convert a corresponding one of the streams of symbols into a corresponding RF signal such that a corresponding number of RF signals is produced.

  • Patent number: 9503303
Abstract: The present disclosure presents symbol mapping for any desired error correction code (ECC) and/or uncoded modulation. A cross-shaped constellation is employed to perform symbol mapping. The cross-shaped constellation is generated from a rectangle-shaped constellation. Considering the rectangle-shaped constellation and its left hand side, a first constellation point subset located along that left hand side are moved to be along a top of the cross-shaped constellation while a second constellation point subset located along that left hand side are moved to be along a bottom of the cross-shaped constellation. For example, considering an embodiment having four constellation point subsets along the left hand side of the rectangle-shaped constellation, two of those subsets are moved to be along the top of the cross-shaped constellation while two other subsets of the constellation points along the left hand side are moved to be along the bottom of the cross-shaped constellation.

  • Patent number: 9031143
Abstract: A communication device is configured adaptively to process a receive signal based on noise that may have adversely affected the signal during transition via communication channel. The device may be configured to identify those portions of the signal of the signal that are noise-affected (e.g., noise-affected sub-carriers of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal), or the device may receive information that identifies those portions of the signal that are noise-affected from one or more other devices. The device may be configured to perform the modulation processing of the received signal to generate log-likelihood ratios (LLRs) for use in decoding the signal. Those LLRs associated with noise-affected portions of the signal are handled differently than LLRs associated with portions of the signal that are not noise-affected. The LLRs may be scaled based on signal to noise ratio(s) (SNR(s)) associated with the signal (e.g., based on background noise, burst noise, etc.).

  • Publication number: 20150095726
Abstract: A communication device operates to support communications with one or more other communication devices. The communication device includes a processor and a communication interface to perform various operations including receiving forward error correction (FEC) coded signals from another communication device. The communication device iteratively decodes the FEC coded signals to make estimates of information encoded therein. The communication device then determines an operational error check rate based on error check failure of at least one of the FEC coded signals after performing a predetermined number of decoding iterations (e.g., that is less than a maximum number of decoding iterations performed by the device). The device then determines a signal to noise ratio (SNR) margin of the communication device by applying the operational error check rate to a characterization of the communication device that relates error check rate and SNR.

  • Patent number: 8898547
Abstract: Rate control adaptable communications. A common trellis is employed at both ends of a communication system (in an encoder and decoder) to code and decode data at different rates. The encoding employs a single encoder whose output bits may be selectively punctured to support multiple modulations (constellations and mappings) according to a rate control sequence. A single decoder is operable to decode each of the various rates at which the data is encoded by the encoder. The rate control sequence may include a number of rate controls arranged in a period that is repeated during encoding and decoding. Either one or both of the encoder and decoder may adaptively select a new rate control sequence based on a variety of operational parameters including operating conditions of the communication system, a change in signal to noise ratio (SNR), etc.

  • Patent number: 8681907
Abstract: Iterative demapper. Demodulation and/or demapping of a signal (e.g., based on a constellation whose points have a corresponding mapping with associated labels) is performed such that each dimension is processed separately without accounting for influences from the other dimension. For example, the demapping process operates on each respective dimension separately and independently. In some instances, the processing operates iteratively, in that, information identified from processing one of the dimensions is employed in directing the processing in another of the dimensions. Such operation may be performed iteratively by updating/modified information associated with one or more of the dimensions as well. Moreover, decoding may operate in accordance with iterative demapping (e.g., error correction code (ECC) and/or forward error correction (FEC) code by which information bits are encoded) to make estimates of bits within a signal sequence, and those estimates may be used in a subsequent iteration of demapping.

  • Patent number: 8683288
Abstract: Variable modulation within combined LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) coding and modulation coding systems. Variable modulation encoding of LDPC coded symbols is presented. In addition, LDPC encoding, that generates an LDPC variable code rate signal, may also be performed as well. The encoding can generate an LDPC variable code rate and/or modulation signal whose code rate and/or modulation may vary as frequently as on a symbol by symbol basis. Some embodiments employ a common constellation shape for all of the symbols of the signal sequence, yet individual symbols may be mapped according different mappings of the commonly shaped constellation; such an embodiment may be viewed as generating a LDPC variable mapped signal. In general, any one or more of the code rate, constellation shape, or mapping of the individual symbols of a signal sequence may vary as frequently as on a symbol by symbol basis.
