Publication number: 20240151204Abstract: An apparatus that floats at the surface of a body of water over which waves pass, causing a nominally vertical axis of the apparatus to tilt away from an axis normal to the resting surface of the body of water. Tilting allows a fluid to flow through a channel that in an un-tilted apparatus would require the gravitational potential energy of the fluid to increase (i.e., to flow uphill), but, because of the tilt allows the fluid to flow through the channel in a downhill direction. Successive wave-driven tilts of the apparatus incrementally raise water to a head from which a portion of its gravitational potential energy can be converted to electrical power by causing the water to return to a lower level by flowing through a water turbine, or through some other apparatus that performs a useful function when supplied with a flow of high-pressure water.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 12, 2024Publication date: May 9, 2024Applicant: LONE GULL HOLDINGS, LTD.Inventors: Brian Lee Moffat, Garth Alexander Sheldon-Coulson

Patent number: 11976622Abstract: A buoyant wave energy device is disclosed that incorporates an open-bottomed tube of substantial length in which is partially enclosed a first body of water that oscillates in response to wave action. The device incorporates a buoy to which an upper end of the tube is connected and inside of which is trapped a second body of water of substantial mass. A differential phase in the oscillations of the water trapped in the tube, and the oscillations of the buoy of augmented mass, result in the periodic compression of a pocket of air trapped at the top of the tube, and in the subsequent expulsion of pressurized air through a turbine, thereby generating electrical power.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2023Date of Patent: May 7, 2024Assignee: Lone Gull Holdings, Ltd.Inventors: Garth Alexander Sheldon-Coulson, Brian Lee Moffat, Daniel William Place

Publication number: 20240141864Abstract: A pressure-regulating buoyant hydrodynamic pump is disclosed that floats adjacent to a surface of a body of water over which waves tend to pass. In response to wave-induced movements of the device, water is drawn into a mouth at a lower end of an injection tube, and water is ejected from a mouth at an upper end of the injection tube. The ejected water is deposited into an interior of the hollow buoy thereby augmenting a water reservoir therein. And water flows from the water reservoir to and through a water turbine, thereby energizing a generator, power electronics, and an electrical load. A novel water-turbine effluent buffering tube, or chamber, smooths pressure variations felt across the water turbine.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 13, 2023Publication date: May 2, 2024Applicant: LONE GULL HOLDINGS, LTD.Inventors: Brian Lee Moffat, Garth Alexander Sheldon-Coulson, Ivar Lee Thorson, Daniel William Place, Alexander David Chally

Patent number: 11974354Abstract: A wireless telecommunication system comprises a base station and a terminal device (UE). The UE is configured to determine its mobility status and an associated reliability. The UE is configured to convey an indication of the mobility status and the reliability to the base station. The base station may then configure the UE for operation within the wireless telecommunications system in a manner that takes account of both the mobility status and the reliability for the mobility status. This can help optimise configuration settings for the UE which depend on device mobility.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2022Date of Patent: April 30, 2024Assignee: SONY GROUP CORPORATIONInventor: Brian Alexander Martin

Patent number: 11954072Abstract: A content server can function as the master record keeper even if a file or folder that it manages in an enterprise computing environment is shared externally, for instance, through a cloud system. To mitigate network security risks, the content server polls, from behind a firewall, an event service of the cloud system. The event service, in response, can communicate events indicating changes to the shared content to the content server. The content server can interpret the events and determine whether to take any appropriate action, for example, updating an audit log to include an event and/or updating the managed content to reflect the changes. Likewise, the content server can communicate any change to the managed content to the cloud system through the event service. In this way, the managed content in the enterprise computing environment and the shared content in the cloud system are bidirectionally synced.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2018Date of Patent: April 9, 2024Assignee: Open Text SA ULCInventors: Srijan Bhattacharya, Brian Alexander Jewell, Robert David James Reynolds
