  • Patent number: 9396458
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for controlling content distribution includes forwarding information associated with a user to a device operated by the user, the information being configured for use in selecting content from any of multiple content providers for a content distribution to the user. The method includes receiving, in response to the information, an edit of the information forwarded from the device. The edit identifies a first content provider and including a first modification of the content distribution regarding the first content provider. The method includes storing the edit in association with the information such that the first modification is taken into account in the content distribution. The method can be implemented using a computer program product tangibly embodied in a computer-readable storage medium.

  • Publication number: 20160078009
Abstract: A new approach is proposed that contemplates systems and methods to provide harmonious tiling layout for a single heterogeneous data feed with a unique and brief syntax. The approach provides solutions to fit shapes into a container without having any holes by automatically providing the most optimum harmonious layout and tile presentation “win-out” over time, and a survival of the fittest of visual presentation based on configurable metrics. A single user interface combines the action of searching and publishing as a single process whereby search results are formatted with the intention to facilitate publishing the chosen items.

  • Publication number: 20140304269
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for automatically sharing media between users is provided. A first image is received depicting a scene with one or more persons. Face detection information is identified for each person in the first image. Identification information for each face detected is obtained without user intervention. The face detection information and the identification information are associated with the first image. The first image including the associated face detection information and identification information is sent to a server hosting a media sharing service. An access link to an event group is received. The event group includes an album of the first image and a first collection of images that share a set of common features with the first image.

  • Patent number: 8739066
Abstract: A system indirectly infers concepts associated with a document. The concepts may be indirectly inferred based on information that does not include characteristics of the document, such as the characteristics that include a textual content of the document not associated with links included in the document, a domain of the document, and the document's Uniform Resource Locator (URL). The system may label the inferred concepts as useful to an audience of the document.

  • Patent number: 8719079
Abstract: Documents or document sets may be scored to reflect a value of an action, such as a selection for example, when an ad is served with the document (or a document belonging to a document set). A cost associated with the action with respect to an ad that was served with a document may then be adjusted using the score. For example, ad scores may be accepted or determined, and a document may be scored using the ad scores when served with the document and ad scores across a collection of documents to generate a document score. Each of the ad scores may indicate a value of an action with respect to an ad, such as a conversion rate, or a return on investment for an ad selection for example. Document scores used in this way may help advertisers get a more consistent cost per conversion, or return on investment, without requiring them to enter and manage various offers for various documents and/or various ad serving systems having various conversion rates or returns on investment.

  • Publication number: 20130304572
Abstract: A document, such as a Web page, includes content and a set of related ad links. When a user selects one of the related ad links, they are brought to a linked document including a set of one or more ads. Unless there is an agreement to the contrary (such as a pay per impression agreement), the advertisers do not compensate the document owner for the selection of a related ad link. However, when a user selects one of the ads on the linked document, they are brought to a corresponding ad landing page linked from the ad. The advertisers may compensate the Web page owner for such selections. The related ad links may be automatically generated using document content information, the number, performances, and/or compensation offers of ads corresponding to the related ad link, etc.

  • Publication number: 20130275233
Abstract: One or more keywords and/or information about one or more properties may be accepted, and a set of one or more taxonomy categories may be determined using at least some of the keyword(s) and/or property information and perhaps term co-occurrence clusters. The determined taxonomy categories may be presented to an advertising user as an ad targeting suggestion. Each taxonomy category may have at least one associated property (e.g., Web document), that participates in an advertising network. An advertiser selection of a suggested taxonomy category may be accepted, and the serving of an ad of the advertiser may be targeted to each property associated with the selected suggested taxonomy category. Alternatively, such properties may be presented to an advertising user as an ad targeting suggestion.

  • Patent number: 8412574
Abstract: A content owner partner (e.g., a Website/Web page publisher) can easily block entire broad or narrow categories of ads, and can specify objectionable ad content or targeting. Concepts may be associated with a property and ads related to those concepts may be blocked for the given property. Further, terms may be associated with a property and ads including any of the terms may be blocked for the given property.

  • Patent number: 8370197
Abstract: A (e.g., expected) performance of proposed ad placement is compared with a performance threshold (either an initial threshold or an adjusted threshold). The ad may be served if the expected performance meets the threshold (perhaps subject to additional conditions), but is not served if the expected performance is less than the performance threshold. Spend information of the ad so served is analyzed to determine if a target amount (budget) is expected to be overspent or underspent. If the former, the performance threshold is increased (and/or the ad performance value is decreased). If the later, the performance threshold is decreased (and/or the ad performance value is increased).

  • Publication number: 20130024283
Abstract: An ad configuration that works well (or best) for a given document or a given type of document is determined and/or used. For example, advertisements having different advertisement configurations may be served with different instances of a given document of a document type. Performance of the different advertisement configurations for at least one of the given document and document type may be tracked. A preferred advertisement configuration for at least one of the given document and document type may then be determined using the tracked performance of the different advertisement configurations. Finally, the determined preferred advertisement configuration may be associated with the at least one of a given document and document type. Once such an association has been determined (or accepted), document information of a document to be provided with advertisements may be accepted, and a document type of the document may be determined using the document information.
