  • Patent number: 7910234
Abstract: A magnetic recording tape includes an elongated substrate and a magnetic side. The magnetic side includes a support layer formed over the substrate and a magnetic recording layer formed over the support layer to define a magnetic recording surface opposite the substrate. The magnetic recording layer includes magnetic particles and a lubricant and supports a net uncompressed density of at least 30 MB/in2. The magnetic side has an extracted BET surface area of greater than 1.0 m2/g.

  • Patent number: 7314647
Abstract: A method for producing a magnetic recording medium includes heat-curing a coated substrate to cure a non-magnetic back coat on the substrate and to cure a magnetic front coat on the substrate, and calendering the heat-cured coated substrate to produce the magnetic recording medium. The calendering optionally is off-line calendering during which the substrate passes between opposed, generally non-compliant rolls. Other methods, and magnetic recording media produced by the disclosed methods, also are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7029774
Abstract: A magnetic recording medium including a substrate, a magnetic side, and a backside. The substrate defines a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. The magnetic side is formed over the first surface of the substrate and defines a recording surface. The backside is coated on the second surface of the substrate and is configured to decrease embossment of the recording surface. The backside defines a backside surface opposite the substrate. The backside surface having a skew less than about 0.5 and a kurtosis less than about 4.0.

  • Patent number: 6563670
Abstract: A data storage tape cartridge (10) includes two tape guides (23, 24). The tapes guides (23, 24) have a foil (43, 143, 243) which is constructed from material which causes a wear pattern (200) to be formed in the foil (43), thereby removing localized forces and spreading out the forces and thereby decreasing the tape pressure.

  • Publication number: 20020044382
Abstract: A cleaning tape cartridge for cleaning a read/write head of a tape drive. The cleaning tape cartridge includes a housing, first and second tape reels, first and second head wrap pins and a cleaning tape. The housing forms a head access window. The first and second tape reels are rotatably disposed within the housing. The first and second head wrap pins are disposed within the housing at opposite sides of the head access window, respectively. Further, each of the head wrap pins has a diameter greater than 0.125 inch (3.175 mm). The cleaning tape extends between the first and second tape reels along a tape path. With this configuration, the first and second head wrap pins maintain the cleaning tape within the head access window such that the cleaning tape is engageable by a head.
