  • Patent number: 5901682
Abstract: A method for transitioning between a first engine operating mode and a second engine operating mode of an internal combustion engine involves establishing an engine mode transition region between the first engine operating mode and the second engine operating mode, which engine mode transition region is defined by at least one engine operating parameter. The engine operating parameter which defines the engine mode transition region is monitored. When the engine is operating in the transition region a first engine operating mode fuel rate is determined, a second engine operating mode fuel rate is determined, and an engine mode transition region fuel rate is determined which is a function of both the first engine operating mode fuel rate and the second engine operating mode fuel rate.

  • Patent number: 5893347
Abstract: A method for apportioning a total fuel quantity to be injected to an engine by a hydraulically-actuated injector between a pilot shot and a main shot includes determining a pilot shot and/or main shot fuel quantity desired to be delivered during injection. The desired pilot shot fuel quantity is compared with a threshold pilot shot fuel quantity and/or the desired main shot fuel quantity is compared with a threshold main shot fuel quantity. The total fuel quantity is delivered by a pilot shot if the desired pilot shot fuel quantity is less than the threshold pilot shot fuel quantity and/or the desired main shot fuel quantity is less than the threshold main shot fuel quantity.

  • Patent number: 5179346
Abstract: An apparatus is adapted to detect particles within a fluid. The apparatus includes first and second electrodes within a housing. The first and second electrodes form a "V" shaped recess. A magnet is positioned within the housing to attract ferrous particles into the recess. The resistance between the first and second electrodes is measured as an indication of particles within the fluid.
