Publication number: 20110264879Abstract: A method for automatically managing copies of source data volumes is provided. A copy management agent receives a message that target volume copies of source volumes are available. The copy management agent accesses the target volume copies of the source volumes. The copy management agent analyzes metadata for the target volume copies. The copy management agent determines whether any of the target volume copies is a boot volume copy based on the analyzed metadata. In response to a determination that one of the target volume copies is a boot volume copy, the copy management agent directs a provisioning agent to provision a new host for the target volume copies. The copy management agent directs the storage subsystem to present the target volume copies to a storage area network port associated with the new host. Then, the new host is booted using the boot volume copy.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 23, 2010Publication date: October 27, 2011Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Brian Hart, Anil Kalavakolanu

Publication number: 20110222524Abstract: In an example embodiment, there is disclosed a technique that enables a wireless device to achieve coexistence with an interfering source. The wireless device determines when interference is present and not present during a service period and reports the duration of interference free interval. At the end of an interference period, the wireless device can send a trigger signal indicating the start of an interference free interval to request data be sent to the wireless station until the expiration of the duration of the interference free interval. In particular embodiments, the signal sent by the wireless device can include an offset, for example a timing synchronization function (TSF) value, to indicate the end of the interference-free interval, perhaps computed so as allow for some clock drift.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 21, 2010Publication date: September 15, 2011Inventors: Allan THOMSON, David Stephenson, Brian Hart, Kasi Nalamalapu

Patent number: 7840225Abstract: A method and an apparatus for radiolocation using time differences of arrival. The method includes receiving transmit timestamps from a set of wireless stations of a wireless network. Each station transmits at least once. The transmit timestamp uses a local timestamping clock to indicate when a station transmitted a packet. The method further includes receiving sets of timestamped captured samples from each station that receives one of the transmitted packets. The times of arrival of each packet at each station are determined from the received sets of timestamped captured samples, and, the relative positions of the stations are determined from the determined times of arrival and the received transmit timestamps. The transmitting by the stations is in a round robin manner one station after the other, and several round robins may be used to mutually calibrate local clocks. Also an apparatus for inclusion in a station of a wireless network.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 2007Date of Patent: November 23, 2010Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Jason R. Patent number: 7821915Abstract: An apparatus and a method to track the channel response for subcarriers in an OFDM receiver for a packet of information that includes a known transmitted part. The receiver has a signal-to-tone transformer to determine subcarriers corresponding to a received packet. The method stores a function of an initial estimate of the channel response for a subcarrier, and accepts a pre-decision constellation point value that is a post channel correction using a first estimate of the channel response. The method includes: makes a decision using the pre-decision constellation point value, re-modulates the decision to form a post-decision constellation point value, and forms a complex valued product of the function of the first estimate for the subcarrier and the complex-valued ratio of the pre-decision and post-decision values. This complex valued product forms a measure of the current channel estimate to use for updating the stored quantity.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2008Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Brian Hart, David J. Patent number: 7681347Abstract: A sign is edge lit and illuminated by an array of light emitting diodes disposed along an edge of a light transmissive panel. A light diffusion surface, which can be formed by a series of serrations on the panel edge, disperses light from the discrete light emitting diodes in the array. A geometric figure, which can be text or graphics or both is formed on one face of the panel by grooves, which redirect diffused light so that an illuminated image, corresponding to the geometric figure, can be seen on the front of the panel. The grooves forming the figure and the light diffusion surface comprise parts of a one-piece panel, and the grooves and the light diffusion surface can be formed when the panel is injection molded.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2006Date of Patent: March 23, 2010Assignee: Imageworks Display and Marketing GroupInventors: Brian Hart Welker, Gregory Scott Isaacs
