Publication number: 20230422012Abstract: A vehicle-to-everything (V2X) emergency message transmission system for transmitting a V2X emergency message, which is received at intelligent infrastructure from a vehicle by V2X communication, to emergency services. The V2X emergency message may be transmitted from the intelligent infrastructure to provide redundancy to a cellular emergency call service and modified by the intelligent infrastructure to include additional information, which is able to be detected or provided by the intelligent infrastructure and unable to be detected by sensors of the vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2022Publication date: December 28, 2023Applicant: Continental Automotive Systems, Inc.Inventors: Brian J. Marlett, Ulrich Stählin, Mitchell E. Clelland, Paul D. Bingham

Publication number: 20230242058Abstract: A vehicle diagnostic and communication system includes a controller with computer executable instructions configured to diagnose operational capability of vehicle operating systems in response to a recognized collision event. The controller is further configured to determine a severity of damage to the vehicle operating systems based on the diagnoses and generate a communication signal based on the determined severity of damage to the vehicle for transmission. The system determines which of a plurality of service providers to send the communication signal based on the severity of damage to the vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 28, 2022Publication date: August 3, 2023Applicant: Continental Automotive Systems, Inc.Inventors: Ulrich Stählin, Brian J Marlett, Mitchell E Clelland, Paul D Bingham

Publication number: 20230242060Abstract: A vehicle diagnostic and communication system and method provides for recognizing a collision event with at least one device associated with a safety system of a vehicle and diagnosing operational capability of vehicle operating systems with an onboard vehicle controller in response to the recognized collision event. The diagnosis provides a determination of a severity of damage to the vehicle operating systems that is used to determine an impact on traffic proximate to the collision and transmit a communication based on the determined impact on traffic to other vehicles and an infrastructure device proximate the collision event.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 2, 2022Publication date: August 3, 2023Applicant: Continental Automotive Systems, Inc.Inventors: Ulrich Stählin, Brian J Marlett, Mitchell E Clelland, Paul D Bingham

Publication number: 20230083999Abstract: A vehicle control system employing acoustic and impact sensors for sensing acoustics and vibrations at a vehicle to detect environmental conditions and provide appropriate vehicle control and driver warnings according to the environmental conditions. The acoustics may include sounds generated by objects in the external environment surrounding the vehicle or sounds generated by impacts on the vehicle. The vibrations may include vibrations of the vehicle generated by the sounds generated by objects in the external environment surrounding the vehicle or vibrations of the vehicle generated by the impacts on the vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2021Publication date: March 16, 2023Applicant: Continental Automotive Systems, Inc.Inventors: Brian J. Patent number: 8970346Abstract: A method of controlling the signal sensitivity of a receiver module of a remote signal communication system includes initializing a PASE function and actuating a switch from a first position to a second position. The second position represents an open switch wherein either an external antenna or a LNA circuit or both are shut off. The switch is returned to a first position in response to completion of a PASE command.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2006Date of Patent: March 3, 2015Assignee: Continental Automotive Systems, Inc.Inventors: Josef Baumgartner, Gerald L. Ostrander, Brian J. Marlett, Patricia Abi-Nader Kachouh

Patent number: 6870340Abstract: A power closure system (40) for a vehicle panel (22, 24) includes position initialization techniques that ensure accurate position initialization. According to this invention, any slack in a coupling (62) between the vehicle panel and a motor (42) for moving the vehicle panel is removed prior to obtaining an initialization position reading when the panel (22, 24) is in a closed position. The inventive arrangement also includes determining a desired torque at which to operate the motor (42) during a position initialization procedure.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2003Date of Patent: March 22, 2005Assignee: Siemens VDO Automotive CorporationInventors: Tomohiro Fukumura, Brian J. Marlett, Sanjaya Kumar Dash

Patent number: 6840113Abstract: A pinch detection system and method controls the speed of a motor moving an object by first calculating the actual motor force and then comparing the actual motor force with a reference force value in a reference field. A pinch condition is indicated if the difference between the actual force and the reference force exceeds a selected pinch threshold. The difference is also used to update the reference field, the pinch threshold and the desired speed of the motor so that the reference field will eventually reflect the actual force profile of the object. The updated pinch threshold is also used to control the motor speed so that the pinching force remains constant regardless of the pinch threshold value.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2002Date of Patent: January 11, 2005Assignee: Siemens VDO Automotive CorporationInventors: Tomohiro Fukumura, Brian J. Marlett, Sanjaya Kumar Dash

Patent number: 6799669Abstract: A clutch control system for moving an object, such as a vehicle door, lift gate or trunk, compares the motor speed with the object speed and engages the clutch when the motor and object speeds are almost equal. Controlling engagement based on the object and motor speeds ensures smooth transitions into a power assist mode and between the power assist mode and a power release mode without causing clutch shock.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2002Date of Patent: October 5, 2004Assignee: Siemens VDO Automotive CorporationInventors: Tomohiro Fukumura, Brian J. Patent number: 6485114Abstract: A method and system for determining the operating integrity of a dual sensor system takes in signals from each of the sensors in the dual sensor system. The signals are preferably generally on the same cycle, and the control evaluates whether a single sensor has sent two consecutive cycle signals to the control without a corresponding cycle from the other of the sensors. If so, an indication is made that the other of the sensors may be failing, or is intermittent. Preferably the sensors are associated with wheel speed indicators and the control is an ABS control.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2001Date of Patent: November 26, 2002Assignee: Siemens VDO Automotive CorporationInventors: Brian J.
