  • Patent number: 8170474
Abstract: Information is transmitted from a radioterminal to a first base station via a first wireless link. A satellite is used to route the information from the first base station to a second base station via second wireless links between the satellite and the first base station and between the satellite and the second base station. At least one of the second wireless links is more spectrally efficient than the first wireless link. Related methods, systems and devices are disclosed.

Date of Patent: May 1, 2012
    Assignee: ATC Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Peter D. Karabinis, Boris Bogatin, Brian M. Deobald, Santanu Dutta
  • Publication number: 20100210209
Abstract: A radioterminal includes a receiver that is configured to receive information from a base station by receiving a first measure of the information from the base station and a second measure of the information from a second device. The second device receives a measure of the information from the base station, responsively generates the second measure of the information and transmits the second measure of the information to the radioterminal over a short-range wireless link. Related methods are also described.

  • Publication number: 20100210262
Abstract: A radioterminal system includes a server that contains a listing of satellite spot beams and registration information for radioterminals. The listing of satellite spot beams includes an association of base stations with each satellite spot beam of the listing of satellite spot beams. Related methods are also provided.

  • Patent number: 7203490
Abstract: A satellite is used to route push-to-send messages among terrestrial base stations. Reduced push-to-send delays thereby may be provided, when a source push-to-send radioterminal is widely separated from a destination push-to-send radioterminal. Satellite routing only may be used when the source push-to-send radioterminal and the destination push-to-send radioterminal are not communicating with a single terrestrial base station or with a group of terrestrial base stations that are proximate one another. A destination base station that is communicating with the destination push-to-send radioterminal may be determined at the satellite, at a satellite gateway and/or at a central server.
