  • Patent number: 9316047
Abstract: An overhead vertical closure, such as an overhead coiling door is described. A plurality of bumpers are spaced and fixed along the sides of the closure to center the curtain between the support brackets. In a first preferred embodiment, the geometry of the bumper is such that the vertical side and the extending sides meet in one or more obtuse angles. In a second preferred embodiment, the geometry of the bumper is such that the vertical side and the extending sides meet in a radius.

  • Patent number: 8827332
Abstract: A self-engaging emergency egress lock assembly mounted to a door track is described. As a door lock strike element contacts a lock strike assembly contained within the door lock assembly, the strike assembly hinges over the door lock strike element. When the door reaches a predetermined down limit power is applied to activate an actuator. Upon activation, the actuator engages a lock strike stop which prevent the strike assembly from disengaging the door lock strike element. If the door is attempted to be opened while the lock strike stop is engaged, the lock strike assembly pushes against the stop, preventing the door from traveling upward. In an emergency egress (alarm) condition, power to the actuator is terminated, thereby releasing the lock strike stop and by extension, the strike assembly, thus disengaging the door lock strike element, thereby providing emergency egress capability.

  • Patent number: 8651164
Abstract: The present invention presents a novel alternative to side-hinged swinging doors that offers access to a broad egress opening width needed to meet higher occupancy egress requirements while simultaneously qualifying as a fire/smoke barrier. In a preferred embodiment, a single overhead coiling fire door shaft assembly is counter-balanced to allow a fire door curtain to automatically close at a governed controlled descent upon reaching an established critical low battery condition. An operator is provided that will run the door under both normal condition and during a power failure or fire/smoke condition at an established average door speed, and also provide established levels of low battery warning signals/actions while also providing the ability to open as required for emergency egress until the temperature at the opening is not conducive for human life.
