Abstract: A multifunctional assembly having a resistive element a conductive element in electrical communication with the resistive element, the conductive element defining at least one of a plurality of multifunctional zones of the resistive element, wherein the conductive element is configured to direct a flow of electricity across at least one of the plurality of multifunctional zones of the resistive element in a preselected manner.

Abstract: A method is taught for joining a wrought alloy material to a cast alloy, so as to obtain a joint having superior structural integrity. A cast nickel-base superalloy part may be bonded to a wrought nickel-base superalloy part, for example, by positioning a suitable part or blank of said wrought superalloy adjacent to the cast superalloy part, applying a local bonding force to the interface while locally heating the interface to a temperature which causes localized softening, metal flow, and bonding, removing said bonding force, and subjecting the bonded assembly to a local or isothermal heat treatment so as to minimize distortion, optimize properties, and stress relieve the bonded assembly. This method may be used, for example, for the repair or replacement of vane assembly retaining lugs, whereby a replacement lug of a wrought alloy is solid state bonded to the vane assembly in place of the previous retaining lug.

Abstract: A holder for securing in position a plurality of slides to enable a composite photograph thereof to be taken, for example for cataloguing a slide library. The holder comprises planar base and secondary frames to receive on their surfaces the slides to be photographed. The frames are provided with transparent sections beneath the areas to be covered by the film portions of the slides when mounted on them, the transparent sections of one frame being aligned with the transparent sections of the other when the frames are mounted in operative position. In this manner the entire film portion of each slide is exposed to the photographic means. In a preferred form of the invention, the slides are mounted on the frame so that the opaque edge portions of the slides on one of the frames overlap opaque edge portions of slides on the other frame, thereby increasing the number of slides which may be included in the composite photograph.
