The sensor preferably includes a wireless transceiver for allowing remote read and remote control of the sensor. The sensor preferably includes piezoelectric pressure detectors for allowing a user to locally interact with the sensor by pressing on the case. Data can be automatically harvested from the sensors by a portable electronic data-retrieving device which is usually geographically remote from the sensors when the portable electronic data-retrieving device and the sensors are in range of a wireless system which allows them to communicate when they are geographically proximate each other.

    Abstract: In one implementation, a method for implementing gain control enhancement for modulated communications includes establishing a communication session between a first endpoint and a second endpoint. The communication session involves forwarding a call signal using an initial gain level until a state transition is detected in the communication session at a digital signal processor. The detection may occur in a transmitting gateway associated with the first endpoint or a receiving gateway associated with the second endpoint. The state transition indicates modulated communications, which may include fax, modem, or text telephony. For example, communication session may be fax over IP (FoIP). The call signal is forwarded using an adjusted gain level based on the state transition. The adjusted gain level may be selected to avoid clipping in the call signal.

The modified JM signal indicates that V.34 half-duplex modulation is not an option. The originating gateway transmits the modified JM signal to the originating fax machine, which allows the transmission to continue across an unenhanced T.38 fax relay.

The method may comprise comparing output profiles generated from sampled outputs of a plurality of filters. The plurality of filters may have a single input sample stream applied to them and each filter may be preset at a measured multi-tone frequency associated with an identified prospective multi-tone signal. Based on the comparison of the output profiles, an inequality degree between the output profiles is generated and compared to an inequality threshold, thereby to determine whether the input sample stream comprises a machine generated multi-tone signal.
