  • Patent number: 5939918
Abstract: An electronic phase shifter splits an input signal into two signals whose amplitudes are set by a weighting circuit controlled by a phase shift control signal. Each of the two outputs of the weighting circuit is loaded with an RLC resonator, one tuned to a frequency lower than that of the input signal and one tuned to a frequency higher than that of the input signal. The loaded outputs are recombined in a vector summing network to synthesize the required phase shifted output signal. This technique permits implementation on a monolithic integrated circuit (MIC) with high gain at high frequencies (e.g. 10 GHz). It also allows a large dynamic range of operation and a large (i.e., greater than 90 degrees) controllable phase shift. This is accomplished without the use of variable reactance elements or any other components external to the MIC.

  • Patent number: 4916348
Abstract: A grating is positioned on a surface acoustic wave device on a first axis in-line with the delay line for substantially reducing the amount of energy reflected on that axis to the transmitter and receiver. The grating site on the first axis at a position between the delay line and one of the edges of the device. The grating is comprised of a parallel series of grating members each oriented so as to extend at a first angle relative to the first axis, the grating members being generally longitudinally bisected by that axis. An optimum value for the first angle is provided by a theoretical analysis, and experimental results are presented. On the experimental device, the grating is defined by a series of parallel grooves formed in the surface of the device; however, the grating may also be defined by a series of metallic strips mounted on the surface of the device.

  • Patent number: 4675630
Abstract: A triple mode dielectric loaded bandpass filter has at least one cavity resonating in three independent orthogonal modes. A triple mode cavity can be mounted adjacent to either single, dual or triple mode cavities. Inter-cavity coupling is achieved through the iris having two separate apertures that together form a T-shape. The cavities can be planar mounted. The filter is designed for use in the satellite communication industry and results in substantial savings in weight and size when compared to previous filters.

  • Patent number: 4652843
Abstract: A bandpass filter has a plurality of cascade cavities that operate in a dual-mode and are mounted in a planar relationship to one another. Each cavity contains a dielectric resonator and resonates at its resonant frequency in two HE.sub.11.delta. modes. An iris is located between adjacent cavities and contains an aperture that can independently control inter-cavity coupling. The dielectric resonator is cylindrical in shape and an adjustable metallic plunger is located in a wall of each cavity so that the cavity can be tuned over a relatively broad range. The filter has good mechanical and thermal stability as well as being extremely flexible in the arrangement of cavities.
