  • Publication number: 20080009565
Abstract: A gypsum slurry is described that includes water, a hydraulic component comprising at least 50% calcined gypsum by weight based on the dry weight of the hydraulic component, foam, a defoamer, a polycarboxylate dispersant having olefinic unsaturated mono-carboxylic acid moieties and (poly)oxyalkylene moieties, a first portion of a retarder and a second portion of a retarder. In some embodiments of the invention, the defoamer is combined with the dispersant prior to being added to the gypsum slurry. The defoamer and dispersant can be added as a physical mixture, wherein the defoamer is attached onto the dispersant polymer, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, a gypsum building panel is made from the gypsum slurry.

  • Publication number: 20060092759
Abstract: A method for providing a smoothly mixed slurry to a web is provided which includes inserting calcined gypsum and water into a mixer (12), agitating the contents of the mixer (12) to form an aqueous dispersion of the calcined gypsum, and passing the agitated contents from an outlet (20) of the mixer (12) into a slurry dispensing apparatus (22) including a flexible, resilient conduit (24). Additionally, the method includes the step of creating a back-pressure on the mixture in the slurry dispensing apparatus by constricting the conduit (24). The constricting of the conduit (24) is effected by a constrictor valve (28) located on the conduit (24).

  • Publication number: 20060010895
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus and process for cooling and de-steaming hot calcined stucco used in the production of gypsum boards or bagged plaster. The apparatus is a fluid bed stucco cooler and comprises a cooler housing having a plenum having a stucco inlet and stucco outlet. The stucco cooler includes a rotating disk in the plenum. The rotating disk includes nozzle for spraying fluid, and is attached to a rotable shaft extending from the side of the cooler also includes a fluidization pad and agitator to help to mix the air and the stucco powder to insure fluidization, prevent channeling, and prevent the stucco powder from building up on the various components. The air also forces steam from the hot calcined stucco out through an air outlet located at the top of the stucco cooler, thereby de-steaming the stucco. The stucco flows through the plenum and passes over the cooling coils, thereby cooling the stucco as it reaches the stucco outlet.

  • Publication number: 20050253098
Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling the flow of a slurry is provided which includes using a constrictor valve on a mixing and dispensing apparatus. The constrictor valve includes a first guide plate and a second guide plate that are spaced a distance apart along the length of the conduit. Extending between the two guide plates, a plurality of elongate members have first and second ends engaged on the first and second guide plates. Upon rotation of at least one of the first and second guide plates, the elongate members are configured to impart pressure on, and constrict the conduit.

  • Publication number: 20050067527
Abstract: A rotorcraft and method for providing controlled flight which provides flight in all six degrees of freedom of pitch, roll, yaw, up/down, forward/rear, and left/right. The rotorcraft includes a fuselage with a pair of counter-rotating rotor blade assemblies each having a plurality of radially-extending airfoil shaped blades about a vertically disposed central axis. A rotor drive system mounted to the fuselage includes a motor or engine for rotationally driving the rotor blade assemblies. A rotor blade control system monitors the rotational location of each blade relative to the fuselage and allows a pilot to control respective vertical and horizontal thrust components of the blades corresponding to lift versus drag characteristics of the airfoils during rotation about the fuselage. This is done by changing the pitch angles of the blades and/or by utilizing respective flaps pivotally mounted to the blades to change the effective pitch angle of the blades.

  • Patent number: 5123854
Abstract: A shunting system for a modular jack type connector which includes a dielectric housing defining a plug receiving cavity open at one end of the housing. A plurality of terminals are mounted in the housing, with contact portions disposed in a single row. A pair of programmable shunts substantially identically stamped and differently formed from sheet metal material are provided for engagement with the contact portions when the two shunts are mounted in different positions on the housing. Selected different ones of the contact fingers of each shunt are removed so that the remaining contact fingers engage only selected ones of the contact portions.
