  • Patent number: 4988657
Abstract: Olefins are polymerized with a catalyst composition which forms on mixing a supported chromium oxide catalyst system and a silane compound. This composition allows the production of one or more comonomers in-situ. The resultant polymer has a lower density, a higher melt index, and a higher high load melt index than polymers produced with a similar catalyst system in the absence of a silane compound.

  • Patent number: 4599160
Abstract: Hydrogen sulfide recovered from pyrolysis zone effluent is separated and burned to produce sulfur oxides which are reacted with solid spent mineral byproduct.

  • Patent number: 4420929
Abstract: A gas turbine combustor arrangement involves two combustion chambers separated by a necked down throat portion with provision for fuel introduction into each of the chambers. Initially, fuel is introduced into the first chamber and ignited. Thereafter, fuel is introduced into the second chamber until the total fuel flow to the combustor is at the desired rate. Burning in the first chamber is then extinguished by shifting fuel flow to the second chamber and after burning termination, the fuel distribution is reversed until a low emission operation is realized. Apparatus for carrying out the foregoing method and a high load ingition system is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4313300
Abstract: The quantity of NOx emissions generated by a combined gas turbine-steam boiler power plant is controlled by recycling a controlled amount of the steam boiler exhaust gas to the air compressor of the gas turbine such that the recycled gases constitutes up to about 30% of the fluid flowing through the air compressor and by cooling the recycled steam boiler exhaust gases to about the desired gas turbine compressor inlet temperature prior to its introduction into the air compressor.

Inventors: Colin Wilkes, Bruce W. Gerhold
  • Patent number: 4297842
Abstract: The NOx emissions of a stationary gas turbine are reduced by concentrating a NOx suppressant in the reaction zone of the gas turbine combustor by dividing the flow of air to the reaction zone and the dilution zone of the combustor by means of an air flow splitter and by taking advantage of the radially stratified compressor flow. The air flow to the two zones is preferably separated by a common flow shield.

  • Patent number: 4158526
Abstract: A turbine assembly is described comprising a casing, a rotor assembly disposed radially inwardly of the casing and adapted to discharge high velocity jets of liquid coolant toward the casing and a rotatable annular ring disposed intermediate the casing and rotor assembly. The ring includes a trough assembly so composed and arranged that liquid coolant impinging thereon is contained therein as a film and the ring rotates in response to such impingement. The ring speed is significantly less than the rotor speed such that erosion of the casing by the coolant is substantially reduced.

  • Patent number: 4030875
Abstract: Integration of separate ceramic parts and metal parts to form a unified combustor is described. The flame holding portion and any other portion where air is introduced into the combustor are made of metal while insulated, imperforate ceramic construction is used for the balance of the combustor liner. In this manner the regions of high local stress are accommodated by cooled metal and the regions of uniform thermal stress are accommodated by resiliently-mounted thermally-insulated ceramic.
