  • Patent number: 6655955
Abstract: A coolable arched roof for a high-temperature melting furnace having a furnace interior. At least the following layers are present on that side of a layer of refractory bricks, which is remote from the furnace interior: a sealing layer, which is used to seal the furnace interior against the leakage or penetration of gas; an insulation layer having a thermally insulating action; and a cooling layer, which is designed to carry a cooling fluid. The arrangement of layers results in an increased gastightness and prevents premature aging of the refractory bricks.

  • Patent number: 4599951
Abstract: A water-fillable trough receives the incineration residues from the drop shaft of a furnace. A partially water-fillable discharge chute slopes upwards from the trough and is provided at its upper end with an overflow edge. A reciprocatible piston conveys the incineration residue from the trough to a circulating device arranged in the discharge chute. The circulating device is in the form of a conveyor belt or a scraper chain and conveys the incineration residues through the discharge chute to the overflow edge. A shutting-off device for separating the chute from the trough is arranged above the transition point between the trough and the chute. The shutting-off device can be in the form of a slide provided with a hoist drive which passes through the upper wall of the chute, or a flap freely suspended by means of joints on the upper chute wall, or as a rubber apron freely suspended from the upper chute wall.

  • Patent number: 4463688
Abstract: An improved grate block includes a blow-out channel terminating at a blow-out opening through the face of the block, the opening having pre-determined dimensional relationships with respect to the size of the front face of the block. The ratio of the width to the height of the front face is smaller than the ratio of the width to the height of the blow-out opening, and one-half the area of the front face is between 20 and 40 times larger than the cross-sectional area of each blow-out opening. Additionally, the blow-out openings are arranged above the horizontal center line and laterally spaced from the vertical center line through the front face, the channel sloping at an angle relative to the upper surface of the grate block which lies between about 15.degree. and about 25.degree..

  • Patent number: 4018168
Abstract: A furnace feed grate of an incinerator comprises transverse rows of grate blocks, the blocks of alternate rows being movable to feed refuse along the grate. Clamping devices at the underside of the grate resiliently urge together the blocks of the respective rows. At the lateral edges of the grate, sealing plates are resiliently urged into sealing contact with the ends of the rows independently of the action of the clamping devices. The grate, the clamping devices and the sealing plates can be removed from the incinerator as a single unit.

  • Patent number: 3934521
Abstract: An incinerator comprises a pre-drying grate, a combustion grate or drum following the pre-drying grate, and a drop intermediate the pre-drying grate and the combustion grate or drum. The drop is the front wall of an air distribution box extending over the width of the pre-drying grate, this wall including air throughflow apertures whereby air passes from the box to a combustion chamber above the combustion grate or drum. The speed of the air flow from the apertures varies over the wall, with the highest speed flows being adjacent to the side walls of the chamber.
