  • Patent number: 6884469
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for manufacturing a continuous yarn, and the product obtained from such process. A multiplicity of continuous filaments are formed by the mechanical drawing of a multiplicity of streams of molten thermoplastic(s) flowing from the orifices of at least one fiberizing device. A mixture, in the liquid state, is deposited on the surface of at least some of the filaments before they are brought together into at least one yarn. An absorbent mat may be continuously impregnated, with at least some of said mixture being continuously taken up by means of a rotating roller in contact with said mat, and using a sizing roller, said mixture may be deposited on the filaments while they are being drawn.

  • Patent number: 6322888
Abstract: A process for producing sized glass yarns, which entails: a) drawing streams of molten glass from orifices located at a bottom of one or more dies, in a form of one or more fans of continuous filaments, b) assembling the filaments into one or more moving supports, wherein a first stable composition having a viscosity of between 0.5 and 250 cP is deposited onto the surface of the continuous filaments, and a second stable composition, supplied separately from the first and having a viscosity of between 0.5 and 300 cP, is deposited onto the surface of the filaments of the yarns, at the earliest during deposition of the first composition and at the latest during collection of the years, the difference in viscosity between the two compositions deposited being less than 150 cP, the mixture of the deposited compositions functioning as a sizing composition and being polymerizable at room temperature.

  • Patent number: 6316058
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a continuous yarn, which entails the steps of: a) continously impregnating a mat of mechanically held-together fibers with a mixture of anhydrous size in a liquid state; b) continuosly taking up at least some of the mixture of the anhydrous size by a sizing roller in contact with the mat such that a liquid film having an almost constant thickness of less than 8 &mgr;m is formed thereon; and c) depositing the mixture of the anhydrous size, using the sizing roller, on a surface of at least some of a multiplicity of continuous filaments which are formed by mechanical drawing of at least a multiplicity of streams containing molten glass flowing out of orifices of at least one device.
