  • Patent number: 5787645
Abstract: A vehicle door frame has at least three, preferably four frame members (2, 3, 4, 5, or 2', 3', 4', 5') made of hollow tubular stock having a uniform cross-section substantially along the entire length, either of each individual frame member or along the entire frame, that forms a closed frame if four frame members are provided. Thus, the individual frame members or an entire frame length can be cut from extruded or rolled tubular stock having a uniform closed cross-section along its entire length. Hinges, having sections connected to the door frame permit mounting the entire door through its frame to the vehicle body. The frame forms a carrier for a door outer skin (31) and a door inner cover (30) and other door components, e.g. hinges and a lock. The door frame also forms a guide cage for a window pane (29). At least one frame member has a uniform cross-section substantially along its entire length and at least that frame member is cut from closed rectangular hollow tubular stock having a cross-section.

  • Patent number: 5617981
Abstract: A roof rack is constructed of two railing rods securable to a vehicle roof. Each railing rod is cut from tubular sectional stock. The rod ends are bent and flattened to form two mounting feet, one at each rod end and integral with the railing rod. A connector element such as a screw passes through the respective mounting foot. Each mounting foot is enclosed by at least one enclosure. Preferably the enclosure has two sections such as a shell and a cover. The sections are strengthened by ribs and the cover snaps onto or into the shell with a location fit. At least one enclosure section is made of synthetic material. The load is carried by the integral mounting feet, whereby the enclosures are substantially load free.

  • Patent number: 5481831
Abstract: A vehicle door is constructed as a frame structure or as a shell body. The frame has at least one front and one rear frame section and an upper and a lower frame member respectively which are connected with each other. In the door constructed as a shell at least one outer section and one inner section are connected with each other to form the door body. At least one diagonal strut is provided in each door so that the diagonal strut is outwardly curved to distribute impact forces into load carrying points of the vehicle body or cell.

  • Patent number: 5469668
Abstract: A vehicle door, for example for a passenger car, has a frame structure with a forward frame section (2), at least one upper frame section (1A, 4), a rear frame section (3) and preferably also a lower frame section (5). A single window frame section forms a first window and guide member (9) is connected between the forward frame section (2) and upper frame section (1A) or to the upper frame section and to a junction between the forward and lower frame sections. A second window guide member (3A) forms an integral part of the rear frame section. The door frame and its frame sections and door components form a module. A window lifting and lowering device is supported and guided in the door frame structure. The first and second window guide members (9, 3A) are fully integrated into the frame structure.

  • Patent number: 5408785
Abstract: A motor vehicle door is secured by hinges to a supporting member of a vehicle frame. The door itself has a supporting door frame into which functional door components are installed, and a door outer skin that includes skin components for securing the skin to the door frame. The door frame with its installed functional door components forms a first modular unit. The skin with its components forms a second modular unit. These modular units are releasably secured to one or more door hinge sections independently of each other for independent assembly and repair operations.

  • Patent number: 5398453
Abstract: A vehicle door, for example a passenger car door, is supported by a door frame formed by a modular frame structure having a forward frame section, a rear frame section, an upper frame section, and a lower frame section. Additional components and accessories of the door, such as window lift mechanisms and lock mechanisms, are attached to the modular frame structure. At least a portion of each of the forward, lower and rear frame sections is formed from a continuous sectional member such as an extruded sectional member. The continuous sectional member includes a box cross-sectional portion that provides the required supporting strength for the door frame and includes laterally extending webs that are cut and bent along edge portions as required to form intermediate spacing webs as well as connecting flanges.
