  • Patent number: 7040207
Abstract: A log merchandising apparatus includes feeding and staging feeders and a plurality of pivoting overhead truss-mounted saws. The saws are travelling saws, reversibly and independently movable along the longitudinal axis of the log by means of a rack and pinion drive and lineal bearings.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 4, 2002
Date of Patent: May 9, 2006
Assignee: Linden Fabricating & Engineering (Prince George) Ltd.

  • Patent number: 6543606
Abstract: Log indexing apparatus includes a frame and a series of laterally spaced spiral rolls that are inclined from front to back between the infeed and the outfeed, and are also inclined sideways. The spiral rolls are rotated synchronously and are arranged so that the gaps between the flights of the spirals define an upward moving log-receiving trough across the width of the device. The sideways inclination reduces the tendency of the logs to ride on the edges of the flights of the spirals.

  • Patent number: 6450324
Abstract: Log singulating apparatus comprises two sets of interleaved support surfaces which reciprocate in the feed direction. Successive support surfaces are vertically overlapped and laterally offset and the two sets of support surfaces reciprocate out of phase by 180 degrees in relation to one another. Logs are promoted in the feed direction by abutment surfaces associated with each support surface. At the extremes of stroke of the sets of support surfaces, the abutment surfaces of overlapping support surfaces substantially align themselves to allow transfer of the log from one abutment surface to the next. This arrangement applies to each pair of overlapping support surfaces to ensure rapid promotion of the log toward the outfeed.

  • Patent number: 5174351
Abstract: An ending apparatus for positioning elongate objects comprising, in combination, object singulating equipment for separating a plurality of elongate objects in an inlet area into single objects while moving the objects in a first direction to an outlet area, and object support rollers intermediate the inlet and outlet area for supporting a separated, single elongate object. The object support rollers are adapted to move the elongate object in a second direction toward a reference surface independently of the object's movement in the first direction on the singulating device. The reference surface stops movement of the elongate object to establish a pre-determined position for the elongate object. Establishing the position of the object permits more efficient handling during further processing.
