  • Patent number: 6529140
Abstract: A bi-dimensional position sensor that can be advantageously used in the turn system controlled from the steering wheel of a vehicle. The sensor includes a permanent magnet fixed to a control lever so as to move in a plane along first and second directions and to rotate about a third direction orthogonal to the preceding ones. The permanent magnet is movable with respect to an integrated device including a first group of sensor elements arranged spaced along the first direction, a second group of sensor elements arranged spaced along the second direction and a third group of sensor elements detecting the angular position of the permanent magnet. Electronics integrated with the sensor elements generate a code associated with each position which the permanent magnet may assume and generate a control signal corresponding to the desired function.

  • Patent number: 6496997
Abstract: An electrostatic cleaning structure of a hard disk driver is formed by a plurality of concentric conductive regions to which biasing pulse trains are supplied. Each biased conductive region generates an electric field attracting any dielectric particle. The pulse trains supplied to immediately adjacent conductive regions are phase-shifted by a predetermined time and in a direction linked to a desired direction of removal for the electrostatic particles. Voltage pulses sent to each conductive region are delayed with respect to voltage pulses sent to an immediately preceding conductive region in the direction of desired removal, and are advanced with respect the voltage pulses sent to an immediately successive conductive region.

  • Publication number: 20010040772
Abstract: An electrical connection structure having connection elements which electrically connect a movable part to a fixed part of a microelectromechanical device, for example a microactuator. The movable part and fixed part are separated by trenches and are mechanically connected by spring elements, which determine, together with the connection elements, the torsional rigidity of the microelectromechanical device. Each connection element is formed by multiple sub-arms connected in parallel and having a common movable anchorage region anchored to the movable part, and a common fixed anchorage region anchored to the fixed part, whereby the mechanical resistance of the connection elements is negligible. The sub-arms have a width equal to a sub-multiple of the width necessary in case of a single connection element for the latter to have a preset electrical resistance, which is determined in the design.

  • Patent number: 6171931
Abstract: A wafer of semiconductor material for fabricating integrated devices, including a stack of superimposed layers including first and second monocrystalline silicon layers separated by an intermediate insulating layer made of a material selected from the group comprising silicon carbide, silicon nitride and ceramic materials. An oxide bond layer is provided between the intermediate layer and the second silicon layer. The wafer is fabricated by forming the intermediate insulating layer on the first silicon layer in a heated vacuum chamber; depositing the oxide layer; and superimposing the second silicon layer. When the stack of silicon, insulating material, oxide and silicon layers is heat treated, the oxide reacts so as to bond the insulating layer to the second silicon layer. As a ceramic material beryllium oxide, aluminium nitride, boron nitride and alumina may be used.

  • Patent number: 5804884
Abstract: The resin sealing layer enclosing the device is biased to a low voltage by means of an anchoring structure formed close to high-voltage contact pads. The anchoring structure is formed by a metal region deposited on the surface of the device and contacting the resin layer, and by a deep region extending from the surface of the device, beneath the metal region, to the substrate. The electrical field in the resin layer is confined between the high-voltage pads and the anchoring structure and prevented from generating polarity inversions in the semiconductor material at the low-voltage contact pads or any other points at which the resin layer contacts the body of semiconductor material.

  • Patent number: RE36472
Abstract: The additional voltage drop across a guard diode against supply polarity inversion in an integrated bridge circuit for driving an external load and employing two high-side NPN power switches driven by two PNP transistors, all monolithically integrated using a junction-type isolation technique, is substantially eliminated by connecting the emitters of the two PNP drive transistors directly to the positive rail, i.e. to the anode of the guard diode. Integrated PNP transistors are per se intrinsically protected against polarity inversion and when so connected permit to reduce the overall voltage drop across the driving bridge circuit. Using a Zener diode as the guard diode and a second Zener diode connected in opposition to the first Zener between the cathode thereof and the negative supply rail an additional spike protection of the circuit's components is implemented.
