  • Patent number: 6159339
Abstract: Disclosed are a paper size consisting essentially of a) alkyl ketene dimer and/or alkenyl succinic acid anhydride; b) degraded, liquid cationic starch having a cationic charge density of 0.5 to 3.5 meqv/g, a degree of substitution of more than 0.1 and a viscosity of less than 10000 cps (30% by weight solution in water at 25.degree. C.); and c) water, and a process for making paper products in which this paper size is added to the pulp. The invention allows the production of AKD and/or ASA sizes on-site in paper plants using simple mixing equipment.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: December 12, 2000
    Assignee: BetzDearborn Inc.
Inventors: Thord G. Hassler, Jurgen F. Schuetz, Bryan C. Smith
  • Patent number: 4970028
Abstract: A detergent composition for softening fabrics while maintaining good detergency comprises a fatty amine such as di tallow methyl tertiary amine and a nonionic surfactant with a low cloud point, such as an ethoxylated fatty alcohol with 3 moles of ethylene oxide per molecule.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 22, 1988
Date of Patent: November 13, 1990
    Assignee: Lever Brothers Company
Inventors: Ian R. Kenyon, Bryan C. Smith
  • Patent number: 4961866
Abstract: A particulate composition useful in the softening of fabrics from a wash liquor, especially in the form of a fabric washing product, comprises a fabric softening clay in intimate contact with a nonionic surfactant system which has a cloud point below 80.degree. C. The clay/nonionic weight ratio is from 2:3 to 20:1. A typical nonionic surfactant is a fatty alcohol with a low degree of ethoxylation, such as a C.sub.13-15 alcohol with 3 ethylene oxide groups per molecule.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 8, 1988
Date of Patent: October 9, 1990

  • Patent number: 4956112
Abstract: A particulate composition useful in the softening of fabrics from a wash liquor, especially in the form of a fabric washing product, comprises a fabric softening clay and a nonionic surfactant system which has a cloud point below 15.degree. C. The clay/nonionic weight ratio is from 2:3 to 20:1. A typical nonionic surfactant is a fatty alcohol with a low degree of ethoxylation, such as a C.sub.13-15 alcohol with 3 ethylene oxide groups per molecule.
