  • Patent number: 8208628
Abstract: A system and a method for providing a secure wireless ad-hoc network in a wireless communication system having at least two transceivers coupled by a wireless transmission link are disclosed. The method includes receiving a data transmission at a first transceiver from a second transceiver, wherein the data transmission identifies a source of a signal in the data transmission and the signal is identified by a signal envelope; detecting a deep fade in the data transmission, wherein the first and second transceivers are configured to sample the source of the signal in the data transmission; determining whether the received signal exceeds a predetermined threshold for deep fades, wherein the predetermined threshold is preset by the first and second transceivers; generating a bit-string corresponding to each of the transceivers based on channel fading information relating to the wireless transmission link; and, using the bit-string, generating a key.

  • Patent number: 8028050
Abstract: Restoration is provided in a communication system having two or more VPN endpoints coupled together through a network comprising a number of nodes interconnected through edges. VPN endpoints coupled through the network are adapted to communicate through a single connection with multiple other VPN endpoints. The single connection may be a VPN hose connection. A restoration topology, comprising backup edges corresponding to primary edges in the network, is determined for the network. A given primary edge is replaced with one or more backup edges if the given primary edge fails. A graph may represent the network and a tree may represent the connections in the network for VPNs connecting the VPN endpoints. The graph can be reduced to a second graph by determining shortest paths between each node in the tree and creating the backup edges from the shortest paths. The second graph can be reduced to a third graph by adding additional backup edges from tree nodes having non-tree edges to least common ancestor nodes.

  • Patent number: 7065584
Abstract: A method for mapping a network, in accordance with the present invention, includes providing distance measurements between tracers in the network, determining routes along which the distance measurements are made, and creating a system of equations which links the distance measurements between the nodes with a sum of the delays between the nodes which comprise the routes. Additional information is extracted about distances of subpaths of the routes to provide additional details to a map of the network. The additional information provides a capability of estimation of distances between nodes without tracers.

  • Publication number: 20060036372
Abstract: A method and apparatus for tissue modeling using at least one tissue image having cells therein and derived from biological tissue. Data derived from the tissue image is clustered to generate cluster vectors such that each cluster vector represents a portion of the tissue image. Cell information is generated which assigns a cell class or a background class to each of the cluster vectors. A cell-graph is generated for the tissue image from the generated cell information. The generated cell-graph comprises nodes and edges. The edges connect at least two of the nodes together. Each node represents at least one cell of the biological tissue or a portion of a single cell of the biological tissue. At least one metric may be computed from the nodes and edges, and the biological tissue may be classified based on the at least one metric.

  • Patent number: 6661775
Abstract: A method and message router that breaks up files to be transferred over a network connection within a specified deadline into fixed-sized pieces. Each piece contains enough redundant information so that a subset (but not all) of the pieces will be sufficient to construct the file at the destination. The method and router determine optimal values for the number of pieces the file should be split into and the subset of pieces required to reconstruct the full contents of the file in order to maximize the probability that the file can be reconstructed at the destination by the specified deadline. The method and router provide an expected QoS guarantee by using redundancy with a deadline rather than reservations.

  • Patent number: 6563833
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for designing multi-ring networks based on generalized quadrangles of combinatorial design theory, together with a scaling algorithm for realizing networks of arbitrary size. Multi-ring networks based on generalized quadrangles ensures that the path between any two nodes is either confined to a single ring, or traverses exactly two rings (passing through a single bridge node), referred to herein as the “one-bridge property.” The one-bridge property allows the construction of networks with small rings and low degree, while also permitting efficient congestion-free flow control protocols. Routing, access and flow control protocols are provided for the multi-ring network that capitalize on the combinatorial properties of the disclosed multi-ring networks. A “self-routing” routing protocol is disclosed wherein a source node does not need to know how to route a packet to a destination node that is not a neighbor.

  • Patent number: 6243585
Abstract: A wireless telecommunications network is disclosed in which all of the facilities (e.g., wireless switching centers, base stations, etc.) are mobile, and, therefore, are capable of being moved while the system provides wireless telecommunications service to one or more wireless terminals. In particular, the present invention is advantageous in that any or all of the various facilities can move relative to each other without the need to suspend the provision of service. An illustrative embodiment of the present invention comprises: a plurality of base stations in a hierarchical network, wherein: each of the base stations comprises the identity of its filial base stations, if any, and wirelessly communicates with its filial base stations; and each of the base stations comprises the identity of its lineal base stations, if any.
