  • Patent number: 9777662
Abstract: A method for operating a fuel delivery device of an internal combustion engine includes switching an electromagnetic actuating device of a volume control valve so as to set a delivery volume. An intensity of an energy that is supplied to the electromagnetic actuating device for switching purposes, in particular of a current supplied to the electromagnetic actuating device and/or a level of a voltage applied to the electromagnetic actuating device, depends at least intermittently on a rotational speed of the internal combustion engine.

  • Publication number: 20090301434
Abstract: In a method for operating an internal combustion engine, particularly an Otto engine having direct gasoline injection in controlled self-ignition, the internal combustion engine including a combustion chamber, at least one intake valve and at least one exhaust valve, whose opening times are variable, and a fuel-air-exhaust gas mixture is introduced into a combustion chamber and is compressed in a compression stroke; the fuel-air mixture self-igniting towards the end of the compression stroke, a controlled self-ignition is made possible in wide load ranges by varying the opening times of the intake valve and the exhaust valve as a function of the load.

  • Patent number: 6901328
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for detecting the end of a start operation in an internal combustion engine (1) of a motor vehicle make it possible to distinguish the start operation from a steady-state condition of the engine (1) even for starters having a high starter rpm. At least one operating variable of the engine is determined which is different from the rpm thereof. The at least one operating variable is compared to a pregiven threshold value. The end of the start operation is detected when the at least one operating variable reaches or exceeds the threshold value.

  • Patent number: 6675642
Abstract: According to the invention, an apparatus for detecting slip of a drive belt (4) of a generator (1) driven by a drive motor (2) is proposed, in which the slip of a drive belt (4) can be determined by observation of the on-board electrical system voltage (Ub) and of the signal course at the terminal (DF) of the generator (1). For determining the slip, the largest possible electrical load (10) is switched, and the voltage course of the on-board electrical system voltage (Ub) before and after the switching of the electrical load (10) is evaluated. By additional observation of the signal at the terminal (DF) of the generator (1), it is precluded that electrical consumers that are not observed could adulterate the result.

  • Patent number: 6647712
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for posttreatment of exhaust gases of internal combustion engines after an engine operation includes an intake system and an exhaust gas treatment system with an exhaust gas catalytic converter. Secondary air that originates in an air source can be delivered to the exhaust gas treatment system at a first secondary air inlet. After an engine operation, with the exhaust gas catalytic converter at operating temperature, the throttle device in the intake system is closed. After the engine operation, the engine is shut off in a phase relationship in which inlet/outlet valves of at least one combustion chamber of the engine are open. By means of the air source, an air flow is generated, which discharges at a further inlet point in the intake system of the engine and flows through or bathes the components in the direction of the exhaust gas catalytic converter at operating temperature in the exhaust gas treatment system.

  • Patent number: 6555930
Abstract: According to the invention, an apparatus for automatically detecting a motor vehicle's generator type is proposed, in which the characteristic voltage course is measured at a terminal (DF) of the generator (1) and compared with values stored in memory. Via an interface (3), a control unit (5) is connected to the controller (2) or generator (1) and evaluates the voltage change (&dgr;DF) upon a load change. To that end, the voltage at the terminal (DF) is measured and evaluated before the electrical load (8) is turned on, after it is turned, and after it is turned off. By means of this apparatus, advantageously not only the generator type (A, B) but also incorrect installations can be ascertained.
