Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for searching a digital audio data file from a media where digital audio data files are recorded. The media comprises a directory information recording area and data recording area where information on the files listed in the directory recording area is recorded. The digital audio data file has a file name field, a data field, and an additional information tag field. The file name field, and the data field and additional information tag field is recorded on the directory information recording area and the data recording area, respectively. Further, recording indexing information which is used as a keyword for searching the digital audio data file is recorded on the directory information recording area.
