  • Publication number: 20040126112
Abstract: A method for optically copying a packet is provided. The method performs a broadcasting operation of a packet in a subscriber access network based on a wavelength division multiplexing using an optical broadcast module, which is disposed independently from an optical label exchange (OLX) switch. The method includes: (a) dividing the packet, which is received from an optical group exchange (OGX) controlled by the OLX switch, into a header and a payload; (b) applying the payload to an i-th port of the OLX switch; (c) leading the payload to the optical broadcast module by controlling the OLX switch so that when the header represents a label for broadcasting, a corresponding broadcasting port of the OLX switch is set as an output port of the OLX switch; and (d) reframing the header and the payload and transmitting the reframed header and the payload to a backbone network using the optical broadcast module.

  • Publication number: 20040081463
Abstract: Provided is an optical Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) transmitting apparatus and method for transmitting bipolar data in an optical CDMA system. The optical CDMA transmitting apparatus and method of the present research has a simple structure, including only one optical CDMA encoder and one optical modulator. This technology minimizes multiple access interference by using modified pseudo-noise code in the encoding process, thus improving the optical CDMA transmission performance. The optical CDMA transmitting apparatus includes: an optical CDMA encoding means for encoding lights from the outside into a code or a complement code of the code; and an optical modulation means for transmitting the code or the complement code of the code which is selected in the optical CDMA encoding means based on the polarity (either ‘0’ or ‘1’) of the data inputted from the outside.

  • Publication number: 20040042712
Abstract: The present invention provides a low cost implemented optical add/drop device suitable for application in a WDM based optical subscriber network that assigns a unique wavelength to each subscriber, which uses an inexpensive optical tap coupler device and an usual optical fiber Bragg grating, simplifying the configuration and manufacturing process, while having relatively high quality performance. The optical add/drop device according to the present invention uses a combination of an optical tap coupler and an optical fiber Bragg grating, instead of a combination of an optical circulator and an optical fiber Bragg grating. Therefore, the cost is 10 times lower than an add/drop device adopting the optical circulator, and the configuration is simple. In addition, the implementation is very easy because the already-existing mature components can be utilized as they are.

  • Publication number: 20040004950
Abstract: A method for transmitting a packet in a wireless access network based on a wavelength identification code scheme. The method comprises the steps of connecting n number of RNCs (Radio Network Controllers) to one sub-ring where the “n” is a positive integer, and assigning a unique wavelength to each RNC; identifying a packet to be transmitted between the RNCs located within a same sub-ring using the assigned unique wavelength, and transmitting the packet through an SRC (Sub-Ring Controller); connecting m number of SRCs to one main-ring where the “m” is a positive integer, and assigning a unique wavelength to each SRC; and detaching a wavelength identification code from the packet to be transmitted between the RNCs located within different sub-rings, and transmitting the packet having the encapsulated wavelength identification code through an MRC (Main-Ring Controller).

  • Publication number: 20030229732
Abstract: The present invention provides a serial bus type configuration recognition and alarm apparatus for a system having a plurality of various boards. The apparatus of the present invention includes a plurality of first transmission units, a second transmission unit and a recognition unit. The first transmission units report board IDentifications (IDs) and board failure status information through a first serial bus. The second transmission unit is connected to the first transmission units to report the board IDs, the board failure status information and an ID thereof. The recognition unit is connected to the second transmission unit to ascertain the configuration and failure status of the boards and report received board IDs and board failure status to a terminal.

  • Publication number: 20030118275
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a multidimensional optical cross-connect switching system. The system includes an optical fiber layer switching unit that cross-connect switches input/output optical fibers, extracts some of the input optical fibers, and inserts optical fibers from the upper layer into the output optical fibers. An optical waveband layer switching unit cross-connect switches the input/output optical wavebands, obtains wavebands by demultiplexing optical signals coming up from the lower layer, extracts some of the obtained wavebands and the input wavebands to route them to the upper layer, inserts wavelengths from the upper layer, and multiplexes the cross-connect switched wavebands and sends some of them to the output waveband ports and the rest to the lower layer.

  • Publication number: 20030030887
Abstract: The present invention provides a wavelength converting apparatus and optical cross connect system using the same. The wavelength converting apparatus includes a plurality of optical sources of fixed wavelengths, a switching means, and at least one wavelength converting means. The optical sources with fixed wavelengths provide probe beams with fixed wavelengths, the wavelength being different each other. The switching means selects at least one beam of a wavelength corresponding to a wavelength conversion request of a transmission signal among a plurality of beams inputted from the fixed-wavelength light sources, and provides the selected beam as a probe beam. The wavelength converting means receives the transmission signal and the probe beam from the switching means, and converts a wavelength of the inputted transmission signal through cross gain modulation, cross phase modulation or optical-to-electrical-to-optical (O/E/O) conversion of the transmission signals and the probe beams.
