    Abstract: An improved coated abrasive material is provided with a thin backing layer of a gripper coating, preferably a resilient non-tacky material having a textured outer surface such as a veined stippling pattern. More particularly, a presently preferred embodiment includes a layer of a non-compressible material having an upper surface and a lower surface. At least one layer of a resilient binder material is provided in permanent, conforming engagement with the lower surface of the base layer. At least one adhesive layer of a resinous polymeric material coats and conforms to the binder layer. Additionally, at least one layer of finely divided abrasive particles are partially embedded in the adhesive layer.
