Patent number: 4244920Abstract: A specimen collection assembly comprising a cup member having a body portion and an open end closure portion. The assembly also includes a cap member having a closure portion adapted for engagement with the cup closure portion to effectuate a seal between the cap member and the cup member to thereby seal the interior of the cup body portion. The cup and cap members each have an outer protective wall thereon extending past and covering the outermost extremities of the closure portions of the cup and cap members to protect the closure portions from hand and body contact.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1979Date of Patent: January 13, 1981Assignee: Plastronics, Inc.Inventors: James G. Manschot, Lawrence A. Salvadori, Byron L. Mather

Patent number: 4095589Abstract: A combination urine meter and drainage receptacle including a liquid meter of semi-rigid transparent material and a flexible liquid drainage receptacle. The meter and drainage receptacle are connected together at the upper portions thereof by a semi-rigid tubular assembly having a flow conduit therethrough of relatively large diameter and short longitudinal length. Drainage of liquid from the meter to the receptacle can be simply and effectively accomplished by tilting the meter with respect to the flexible receptacle from a vertical hanging position to a drainage position. When so tilted, the drainage bag will retain its substantially vertical hanging position to insure a positive drainage flow between the two containers.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1975Date of Patent: June 20, 1978Assignee: Plastronics, Inc.Inventors: James G. Manschot, Byron L. Mather, Larry A. Salvadori

Patent number: 4055179Abstract: A two-piece valve including a first tubular member having a flow passageway therethrough with a tapered valve seat formed at one end of the flow passageway. A second tubular member is provided having a flow passageway therethrough and a valve element mounted in the flow passageway on the axis thereof. The first and second tubular members are slidably telescopically engaged with each other with one end of the first tubular member slidably positioned inside one end of the second tubular member. The valve element of said second tubular member has a tapered valve surface formed thereon adapted to move into and out of sealing engagement with the tapered valve seat of the first tubular member when the tubular members are telescoped axially one inside the other. The taper angles of the valve element and seat are in the "self-holding" category so that when the valve element is firmly seated in the valve seat the parts will be retained in mating engagement without any additional retaining means.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1976Date of Patent: October 25, 1977Assignee: Plastronics, Inc.Inventors: James Gordon Manschot, Byron L. Mather

Patent number: 4051578Abstract: A one-piece combination hanger and clamp member for a drainage bag having an inlet tube connected to the top portion of the bag. The hanger clamp member is comprised of a bag retaining portion, a hanger clamp portion and a tube retaining portion. The bag retaining portion has an upright U-shape and is adapted to engage and support the drainage bag in a substantially vertical hanging position. The hanger clamp portion is integral with and extends from one leg of the bag retaining portion. The hanger clamp portion has an inverted U-shape adapted for hanging engagement with a support member and also has an elongated slot therein extending from one leg thereof to the other leg thereof with said slot tapering inwardly at one end thereof to a narrow clamping slot in which the inlet tube can be forced to thereby clamp it shut. The tube retaining portion is comprised of a lip integral with and extending from the other leg of the U-shaped bag engaging portion.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1975Date of Patent: October 4, 1977Assignee: Plastronics, Inc.Inventors: James G. Manschot, Byron L. Mather, Thomas W. Balistreri

Patent number: 4028156Abstract: A closure collar member having a circular groove formed therein is attached to the tubular neck portion of a plastic container by first inserting the neck into and partially through a tubular mandril member so that the end portion of the neck will extend out the end of the mandril. The neck is then folded over the edge of the mandril and the collar member is then positioned on the mandril so that the folded edge portion of the neck will become fully inserted into the circular groove formed in the collar member. The folded edge of the neck is then fused to the collar member at the root of the circular groove to complete the seal between the parts.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 1976Date of Patent: June 7, 1977Assignee: Plastronics, Inc.Inventors: James L. Clark, Byron L. Mather

Patent number: 3998255Abstract: A breather assembly for a sealed container such as a bedside drainage bag, such bag being made of sheets of polyvinyl chloride plastic which material has the characteristics of receiving an electronic weld. A breather element is positioned between one face of the container wall and a retaining ring. The wall and ring have openings therein positioned in alignment with each other. The breather element retaining ring is comprised of a non-porous flexible material such as polyvinyl chloride having the characteristics of receiving an electronic weld. The breather element is made from a material comprised of a woven nylon substrate with a coating of a copolymer of polyvinyl chloride and acrylonitrile which material is effective to allow free passage of air therethrough while at the same time effectively resisting the flow of liquid therethrough. Such material also has the characteristics of receiving an electronic weld.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1975Date of Patent: December 21, 1976Assignee: Plastronics, Inc.Inventors: Byron L. Mather, Raymond H. Johnston

Patent number: 3990448Abstract: An enema tip comprising an acorn portion at the end thereof, a distal staff portion connected to the acorn portion and a stop or locator portion connected to the distal staff. The acorn portion has a rounded tip which tapers to a head portion and a retainer shoulder formed adjacent the head portion. The locator portion is of a diameter greater than the distal shaft and is provided with a locating shoulder spaced approximately one inch from the retainer shoulder on the acorn tip.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1976Date of Patent: November 9, 1976Assignee: Plastronics, Inc.Inventors: Byron L. Mather, Wylie J. Dodds
