Abstract: A method for determining a coverage area according to antenna patterns in a sector base station system provided that the antenna gain of the omni base station is identical to the antenna gain of the sector base station. The method includes the steps of calculating the ratio of the coverage area of the sector base station to the omni base station, calculating the coverage area of the omni base station considering a handover area, and multiplying the calculated ratio of coverage area of the sector base station by the calculated coverage area of the omni base station, to determine the number of base stations required in designing the wireless network by the operator.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for calculating the optimal number of base transceiver stations (BTSs) in a wireless network and for determining a loading factor value therefor. The wireless network has a plurality of BTSs, each station providing communication service to mobile stations. As a loading factor value increases, the traffic decreases and the coverage area increases. The method calculates the number of BTSs in accordance with a decrease in traffic and the number of BTSs in accordance with an increase in the coverage area; determines a loading factor value which minimizes a difference between the two number of BTSs; and determines the optimal number of BTSs according to the determined loading factor value.

Abstract: A method for determining the number of effective channels and the effective channel rate in a CDMA network is disclosed. The method calculates the ratio of the soft handoff area to the total service area and the soft handoff channel rate. The results are used to determine both the number of effective channels and the effective channel rate.

Abstract: A method for reducing the number of channel cards in a base station by sharing channels between a plurality of frequency assignments and between a plurality of sectors of the base station during a traffic overload in a code division multiple access (CDMA) system of the type having a plurality of cells with each cell containing the sectors and each sector having a group of traffic channels and a group of frequency assignments to it that is same as the group of frequency assignments to other said sectors within that same cell, the method comprising the step of setting traffic channels to accommodate requests within the base station, the step of determining whether said set traffic channels are to be shared between the frequency assignments and/or between the sectors, in the event that the set channels are shared only between the frequency assignments, the step of determining the number of channel cards by calculating XY W , in event that the set channels are shar
