Abstract: Provided is an image capturing apparatus and method, in which the limit of the application of blurring to an input image is determined with the use of a database of recognizable blur levels, and the input image is processed by applying filtering properties corresponding to variations in digital gain and an exposure time. The image capturing apparatus includes a light reception module which receives an optical signal; and an image processing module which adjusts an exposure time-to-digital gain ratio with reference to the amount of light included in the optical signal.

Abstract: An auto-focus method, medium, and apparatus for image-capturing. The auto-focus method includes obtaining a first image by placing a focus lens of a corresponding image-capturing apparatus at a first fixed position, obtaining a second image by placing the focus lens at a second fixed position; calculating blur levels of the first and second images, and determining a position of the focus lens by substituting the blur levels of the first and second images into each of a plurality of blur level relational expressions, which are derived from a plurality of pairs of images of respective corresponding objects at different distances from an image sensor module, each of the pairs of images being obtained by placing the focus lens at the first and second fixed positions, respectively.

Abstract: A method and apparatus to auto focus are provided. A distance classifier to auto focus includes a distance-calculating module calculating a focal distance on the basis of blur levels of at least two images; a precise distance-calculating module calculating the exact distance to a subject when an image that is captured at the focal distance calculated by the distance-calculating module is out of focus; and a distance-calculation-correcting module correcting the distance-calculating module on the basis of the blur levels and the exact distance to the subject that is calculated by the precise distance-calculating module.

Abstract: An apparatus and method to control the focusing of a photographing device, in which a light source portion is removed from an image, is provided. The focusing of the photographing device is controlled according to whether the image is in a high- or low-illuminance state. The apparatus includes a luminance detection unit detecting respective luminance values of pixels included in an image; a filter unit outputting values corresponding to the detected luminance values; a threshold calculation unit counting a number of pixels having luminance values greater than a predetermined value among the luminance values of the pixels included in the image and calculating a threshold value using a ratio of the counted number of pixels to a total number of pixels included in the image; and a control unit controlling a position of a lens using output values greater than the calculated threshold value among the output values.
