The control method of the mobile computer which receives power from an adaptor or a battery includes receiving power from one of the adaptor and the battery and operating in an adaptor mode or a battery mode, performing a predetermined power saving operation, which is disabled in the adapter mode, while operating in the battery mode, and performing the power saving operation in a battery emulation mode by maintaining power supply from the adaptor upon an occurrence of a predetermined mode changing event in the adaptor mode.

With this configuration, the cost of production decreases, and space for an installation of hardware components is more plentiful.

    Abstract: An electronic device has a microcomputer and a firmware thereof, a power switching part generating an on/off handling signal according to an external handling, and a power supply part supplying power to the electronic device according to the on/off handling signal. An updating system controls a signal cut-off part cutting off (blocking) the on/off handling signal of the power switching part while the microcomputer firmware is being updated by the updating system. An update failure of the microcomputer firmware because of a handling error of the power switch is prevented, because the on/off handling signal is blocked during the firmware updating.

The power management system in the computer system allows the contents of the main memory to be maintained when the system proceeds to the rest mode. The apparatus includes a microcontroller which receives a first operating voltage from the power supply and controls power distribution based on the power management program stored in a BIOS ROM. The microcontroller generates a control signal when the system proceeds to the rest mode.
