Patent number: 11930607Abstract: A field-replaceable unit is reversibly secured in place using two captive fasteners. Each fastener includes a telescoping knob that rotates 180 degrees in a first direction to engage a latch mechanism and rotates 180 degrees in the opposite direction to disengage the latch mechanism. The knob automatically extends when the latch mechanism is disengaged. The knob alternately extends and retracts in response to being successively pressed when the latch mechanism is engaged. The knob has two cutaways formed along outside edges to facilitate a two-finger grip for knob rotation and pulling the unit out of another module. A circular groove centered on an axis of rotation of the knob has a contrasting coloration and provides a visual and tactile indication of know location. A nub indicates rotational position of the knob.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2021Date of Patent: March 12, 2024Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Amrita Sidhu Maguire, Ilhan C Gundogan, Keith C Johnson, Jason J Duquette

Patent number: 8749966Abstract: A data storage drive carrier configured for insertion into 2U or 3U slots not an electrocal chassis. The carrier has opposing side members and front and back members. A first side member is fixedly attached to the front member to form a rigid L-shaped portion of the carrier; and a second side member and the back member are pivotally attached to the L-shaped portion. The second one of side members and the back member are pivotally attached to the L-shaped portion at first ends and second ends thereof are attached to together to form a closed frame after receiving therein the drive. A light pipe is disposed within a groove formed in one of the side members, one end of the pipe being disposed adjacent to a light source of a rearward interposer to receive optical signal emitted by the source and an opposite end disposed adjacent a front end of the carrier.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2009Date of Patent: June 10, 2014Assignee: EMC CorporationInventors: Maida Boudreau, Ilhan C. Patent number: 7573726Abstract: A printed circuit board module for a rack mounted chassis. The module includes a latching assembly having: a handle and a catch. When the module is inserted a predetermined distance into a chassis, the catch becomes inserted into an aperture formed on the chassis and when, at such predetermined distance, the handle is slid inwardly into the chassis, the catch engages the handle to retain the handle within the module. On the other hand if, when the module is inserted into the chassis at a distance less than the predetermined distance, the catch is unable to be inserted into an aperture and when the handle is slid inwardly from the chassis, the catch prevents the handle from being retained and such handle, when released, is urged outwardly of the module thereby indicating that the module is improperly inserted within the chassis.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 2007Date of Patent: August 11, 2009Assignee: EMC CorporationInventors: Gerald J. Publication number: 20060150458Abstract: Described is a label cassette for mounting to the front side of an enclosure and for holding and displaying a label used to identify a configuration of that enclosure. The label cassette includes a transparent cover, a tray, and a hinge mechanism. The tray has a pair of guide rails for engaging respective guide structures on the enclosure to align the label cassette for attachment to the enclosure, a capture mechanism to secure the label cassette to the enclosure, and a label surface to hold a label. The hinge mechanism attaches the transparent cover to the tray and permits rotation about an axis parallel to the back edge of the transparent cover. Mounted to a ledge that extends from the front of the enclosure, the label cassette does not occupy vertical space or interfere with connectors, cables, or airflow vents on the front of the enclosure.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2004Publication date: July 13, 2006Applicant: EMC CorporationInventors: Lawrence Feroli, W. Cunningham, C. Gundogan, Albert Beinor, Joseph King

Publication number: 20050287838Abstract: Described is a retainer having a base for attaching to a first circuit board. Opposing spatially separated first and second support members extend from one side of the base. The first support member has a latch portion and a terrace for supporting a portion of a second circuit board thereon. An arm has a free first end with a projection extending therefrom and a second end pivotally attached to the second support member for rotational movement between an open position and a closed position. An intermediate section of the arm latches onto the latch portion when the arm is rotated into the closed position. The free first end of the arm extends beyond the first support member for pressing the projection against a surface of the second circuit board when the intermediate section of the arm is latched onto the latch portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 25, 2004Publication date: December 29, 2005Applicant: EMC CorporationInventors: Maida Boudreau, Gerald Cote, W. Cunningham, C. Gundogan

Publication number: 20050264142Abstract: Described is a bezel for an electronics enclosure. The bezel frame includes a frame, first and second plunger mechanisms, a shuttle, and a locking mechanism. The locking mechanism has a cam disposed in a path of lateral movement of the first plunger mechanism. The cam is located between that plunger mechanism and a tab of the shuttle. The orientation of the cam determines the extent of lateral movement of the plunger mechanisms. In one orientation, the cam restricts the lateral movement of the first plunger mechanism and urges the shuttle into a position that restricts the lateral movement of the second plunger mechanism. Consequently, neither plunger mechanism is able to move far enough laterally to disengage from a mounting structure.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 25, 2004Publication date: December 1, 2005Applicant: EMC CorporationInventors: W.
