  • Patent number: 6895748
Abstract: A hydrostatic transmission including a pump, a motor, and a center section provided with a conduit through which the pump and motor are in fluid communication and a valve. The pump, motor and center section are disposed in a housing having a plurality of walls which at least partially define a sump, the conduit being in fluid communication with the sump through the valve when the valve is open. A hydraulic disconnect mechanism is provided which includes a substantially rigid first portion, and a second portion operatively engaged with the first portion and being at least partially resilient. The valve is operably engaged with and opened by the second portion in response to the first portion being in an engaged position, and the valve is not operably engaged with the second portion when the first portion is in a disengaged position.

  • Publication number: 20040175277
Abstract: A hydrostatic pump assembly having a casing which encloses a pumping mechanism, and including a housing, and an endcap attached to the housing. The endcap has at least one lateral exterior surface, and a first system fluid passage having a pair of system ports located in the endcap lateral exterior surface, and a second system fluid passage having a pair of system ports located in the endcap lateral exterior surface, each of the first and second system fluid passages being in fluid communication with the pumping mechanism. In one embodiment, the pair of system ports of the first system fluid passage are located opposite each other in the endcap lateral exterior surface. The pair of system ports of the second system fluid passage may also be located opposite each other in the endcap lateral exterior surface.

  • Publication number: 20040123594
Abstract: A hydrostatic transmission including a fluid motor in communication with a variable displacement fluid pump having a first displacement rate and a second greater displacement rate, a pump block having at least one fluid conduit through which fluid flows from the pump to the motor, an external fluid sump, a cylindrical pintle fixed to the block having a first bleed hole and a second bleed hole in communication with the first bleed hole, and a ring in sliding engagement with the pintle and having a slot in selective communication with the second bleed hole. The conduit and the sump are in communication through the bleed holes and the slot at the first displacement rate, and the fluid conduit and the sump are out of fluid communication at the second displacement rate.

  • Patent number: 6681909
Abstract: A reversible implement including an engine, an axle driven by the engine, a pair of ground engaging wheels with a wheel located at each axle end, a pair of input hubs rotatably fixed to the axle, a pair of wheel hubs with a wheel hub located at each axle end and attached to a ground engaging wheel, and a wrap spring surrounding a portion of each input hub and each wheel hub. Each wrap spring has a relaxed state, wherein the wrap spring is in one of a first position in which the wrap spring is disengaged from the wheel hub, and the input and wheel hubs are not rotatively coupled and a second position in which the wrap spring is engaged with the wheel hub, and the input and wheel hubs are rotatively coupled, and a contracted state, wherein the wrap spring is in the other position.

  • Patent number: 6655515
Abstract: A modular, self-contained, bi-directional wheel clutch unit selectively attachable and detachable as a unit to and from an axle, the unit including a rotatable wheel-driving hub including a casing portion, a clutch cage disposed in the casing portion and surrounded thereby and which has a plurality of circumferentially-distributed openings, a rotatably driven cam element disposed in the casing portion and surrounded by the clutch cage and which has a plurality of discrete surfaces thereon, and a plurality of rollers rotatably disposed within the casing portion and within the clutch cage openings. The rollers are located between the casing portion and the cam element discrete surfaces and have an engaged position wherein the cam element and the hub are in binding engagement through the rollers and the hub is rotatably driven by the cam element, and a disengaged position wherein the hub is freely rotatable relative to the cam element.

  • Publication number: 20020189137
Abstract: A walk-behind self-propelled implement, such as a snow thrower or lawnmower, for example, is provided. The implement includes first and second transmission modules associated with a common single axle to which a pair of drive wheels is attached. The first and second transmission modules are operable exclusively with respect to one another to drive the axle and the wheels in a forward and reverse direction, respectively. A control member mounted to the handle of the implement includes a forward bail member pivotable to rotate the control member in a first direction to urge the wheel to rotate in a forward direction, and a reverse bail member pivotable to rotate the control member in a second direction opposite the first direction to urge the wheel to rotate in a reverse direction.
