  • Patent number: 8424695
Abstract: An improved closure for a container. The container includes a lip having a plurality of downwardly extending angled surfaces, each terminating in a recess, and a shoulder which defines an open top of the container. The closure includes a plurality of lugs which are configured to engage the angled surfaces when the closure is rotated and mate with the recesses to secure the closure in place. To secure the tabs in the recesses, the closure includes one or more springs which extend downwardly from the top of the closure and contact the shoulder of the container to urge the closure upwardly with respect to the container. To separate the closure and the container, the closure is pressed toward the open top of the container, thereby disengaging the lugs from the recesses and allowing the rotation of the closure to disengage the closure from the container.

  • Publication number: 20070039914
Abstract: A child-resistant container configured to receive and store a plurality of items having a hollow receptacle provided with a neck, a cap releasably engaging the neck and a child-resistant lock assembly. The lock assembly includes one or more helical threads formed on the outer circumference the receptacle's neck or on the inner surface of the cap. One or more pins are formed on the inner surface of the cap or around the outer circumference of the neck of the receptacle. One or more resilient elements are formed on the cap or the receptacle's neck. The thread has two ends with a hook at a first end and a V-shaped region between the first end and a second end of the thread. The hook points toward a trough of the V-shaped region, the thread forming a channel of a width sufficient to accommodate sliding travel of the pin therein.

  • Patent number: 6612450
Abstract: A cap and container for providing a child resistant closure by engaging one side of the cap with the container, and providing a non-child resistant closure by engaging another side of the cap with the container. The child resistant closure includes a wall and a bounding outer skirt having a tab formed therein. A pair of tangs are supported on a distal end of the tab on the child resistant closure side of the cap. The tangs engage a lip formed on a mouth flange of the container when the child resistant closure side of the cap is forced against the flange, for engaging the tang with the lip and securing the cap to the container. An inner skirt formed on the non-child resistant closure side of the cap is spaced from the outer skirt to form a friction fit with the mouth flange.

  • Patent number: 5865330
Abstract: A child-resistant cap and container including an inner and an outer skirt depending downwardly from the top wall of the cap. The inner skirt has an internally threaded surface for engagement with the externally threaded neck of the container. The outer skirt has a pair of longitudinal slots defined in the bottom portion of the outer skirt for forming a flexible tab therebetween. A tooth is radially spaced from the container neck for edgewise engagement with the tab when the cap is in its locked position. The locked cap can be removed from the container only by depressing the tab inwardly to clear the tooth as the cap is rotated in a retrograde or opening direction.

  • Patent number: 5579934
Abstract: A convertible child resistant closure for use with a container having a threaded portion adjacent the container opening, e.g. the container neck, to allow a user to select between a child resistant closure and an easily openable closure depending upon the use and contents of the container. The closure includes coaxial inner and outer caps. The inner cap is defined by a cover wall and a side wall or skirt depending from the cover wall. The side wall includes an inner surface having a threaded portion for engagement with the threaded neck portion of the container, and an outer surface including a child resistant portion comprising a series of angular abutments extending thereabout and a non-child resistant portion axially offset from said child resistant portion and preferably in the form of a row of longitudinally extending knurlings. The outer cap is also defined by a cover wall and a side wall depending from the cover wall.

  • Patent number: 5513780
Abstract: A pressure insertable unitary nozzle and handle combination for interlocking insertion into a pair of spaced openings in the top of a container. Each opening is provided with an inwardly directed annular flange for securing the unitary nozzle and handle to the container. Accordingly, the unitary nozzle and handle is adapted to snap tightly over the spaced openings so as to provide a fluid-tight seal at these contact regions.

  • Patent number: 5370251
Abstract: An child-resistant closure for bottles and similar containers is provided. This child-resistant closure is provided with an inner cap which has a plurality of triangular saw tooth projections located on its outer surface and an outer cap which fits over and rotates relative to the inner cap and is provided with knurlings located on its inner surface. The knurlings of the outer cap are complementary to and angled the same way as the saw tooth projections of the inner cap so that when the outer cap is rotated in the opening direction, the knurlings will move freely or ratchet over the saw tooth projections. However, when axial force is applied to the outer cap toward the inner cap, the knurlings cam against the saw toothed projections causing the caps to rotate in unison and disengage from the container. Additionally, this child-resistant closure utilizes a guide on the inner surface of the outer cap to keep the inner cap in alignment with the outer cap.

  • Patent number: 5197616
Abstract: A child-resistant screw-on closure is provided with the closure having an audible close indicator signal and formed as a three-element closure. The outer cap is arranged for rotation relative to the centrally located middle cap and cooperates in a torquing manner with the middle cap so that, as the closure is rotated to close the container, the frictional engagement means engages the camming surface of the middle cap and until the frictional engagement means is rotated past the front end of the cam surface over the abutment point and onto the trailing end to produce the audible closure-state indicating "click" signal. Thus, the closure provides the user with a readily apparent audible indication as to whether the container closure is in its fully closed or container-sealing condition.

  • Patent number: 5115929
Abstract: A child-resistant screw-on closure is provided with the closure having a closure state indicating pattern and formed as a three-element closure. The outer cap is arranged for rotation relative to the centrally located middle cap and cooperates in a torquing manner with the middle cap so that, as the closure is rotated to close the container, an indication of full sealing is viewable through a window of the outer cap only when such sealing is complete. Similarly, during rotative unsealing or opening of the container, the outer cap is the first to move relative to the remainder of the closure so that the indication of complete sealing of the container is no longer viewable through the window just as soon as rotative opening of the container has begun. Thus, the closure provides the user with a readily apparent indication as to whether the container closure is in its fully closed or container-sealing condition.

  • Patent number: 5005718
Abstract: A tamper-evident child resistant closure device is provided. The tamper-evident child resistant closure device includes an inner cap having a first set of teeth, an outer cap which fits movably over the inner cap and has a second set of teeth adapted to operatively engage the first set of teeth to facilitate removal of the closure device and inactivatable engagement prevention means for preventing engagement of the first and second sets of teeth. The engagement prevention means functions independently of the configuration of a container on which the closure is used and prevents the removal of the closure device from the container. Once the engagement prevention means are inactivated, the first set of teeth on the inner cap can engage the second set of teeth on the outer cap when the outer cap is displaced axially downwardly with respect to the inner cap. The closure device can be taken off a botttle when the teeth are engaged.

  • Patent number: 4270664
Abstract: One piece child resistant cap for containers. A container has a neck with a thread on its external surface. A first group of teeth is arranged in a line on said neck below the lower end of said thread. A second group of teeth is arranged in a line on said neck opposite said first group of teeth. A cap of flexible material having a cap thread engages the container thread. A third group of teeth on the inside of the lower portion of the cap is spaced below the cap threads. A fourth group of threads on the inside of the lower portion of the cap is located opposite the third group of teeth. Whereby when the cap is screwed on to the container, the cap teeth will engage the container teeth so that the cap cannot be unscrewed in conventional manner and so that the cap must be squeezed to release the engagement of the cap teeth and the container teeth.
