  • Publication number: 20190170025
Abstract: A renewable energy process and method to capture heat from low temperature sources with a refrigeration cycle to produce electricity using the heat content of sources normally unavailable because of their low temperature. This disclosure uses carbon dioxide (CO2) refrigerate, but other refrigerates may be used as well. Heat is transferred from a low temperature source through an indirect heat exchanger (evaporator) to a refrigerating agent that enters the evaporator as a low temperature sub-cooled liquid or saturated mixture and exits as a vapor. The vapor is then superheated by a pollution free method and directed to a turbine for expansion to produce work. The expanded vapor is converted back to liquid without a condenser for return to the evaporator, resulting in a highly efficient system that does not reject heat into the environment.

  • Patent number: 9816400
Abstract: A unique method and ternary cycle process that captures heat from low temperature sources currently considered not commercially usable to produce electricity and desalinate water. In one cycle a novel flash tower operating at vacuum pressure causes a fraction of low temperature water to flash into steam. The steam passes to an indirect heat exchanger with a circulating refrigerating agent such as CO2, which condenses the steam on its outside surfaces to produce desalinated water product. The steam heat of condensation vaporizes the refrigerating agent, which is part of a binary refrigerate cycle that uniquely conditions it for turbine expansion to produce electricity in a connected electric generator.

  • Patent number: 5791300
Abstract: A steam generator parallel back end arrangement divides a flue gas flow into a plurality of paths in the steam generator housing. A pendant primary superheater is located in the housing near the top of the housing and a baffle wall having tubes therethrough vertically extends from the bottom of the housing in the flue gas flow. The baffle wall is divided into enclosure walls which extend upwardly in the housing and define an interior space therebetween. A top directional baffle is connected to the enclosure walls for forming a gas-tight vestibule in which an inlet header of a reheater and an outlet header of an economizer are supported and contained therein for protection from the flue gas environment.

  • Patent number: 5669333
Abstract: An arrangement for a furnace of a once-through steam generator includes a fluid mix header for holding a volume of a furnace mix fluid. A plurality of side wall tubes at the side wall of the furnace are connected to a side wall header. A roof outlet header is located at the roof of the furnace and a roof tube is connected at one end to the roof outlet header and at the opposite end to one end of a loop section of tube. A front wall tube located at the front end of the furnace is connected at one end to the opposited end of the loop section of the tube from the roof tube. A connection tube is connected between the roof outlet header and the fluid mix header. Rear and front screen tubes are connected directly to the fluid mix header of the furnace. Fluid from the fluid mix header is provided to the convection pass downcomer and convection pass tube enclosures of the steam generator.
